Halo Infinite Delay Met With Mostly Positive Reactions
343 Industries has just formally announced that Halo Infinite will be delayed until 2021 earlier today, and fans have taken to Twitter to express their feelings regarding the breaking news. Overall, most fans seem to be pretty alright with the delay.
While some fans are undoubtedly disappointed to see the Xbox Series X launch without a new entry in the flagship franchise day one, most gamers seem to be OK with the title getting some extra time in the oven. Many fans are giving "massive props" to 343 Industries and Microsoft for seemingly admitting that Halo Infinite just needs extra development time.
Many fans have noted that past titles in the series, particularly Halo 5, felt like they could have benefited from additional time and resources, and Halo Infinite will undoubtedly benefit from this additional work and dedication from the development team.
As the years have gone by, game delays have become more and more prominent, with titles such as The Last of Us Part 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and many other titles all getting delayed this year alone. The recent COVID-19 pandemic that has plagued the world 2020 has reportedly affected roughly a third of game developers, with countless games getting delayed because of it. It's no huge surprise that Microsoft's teams have been affected by it as well.
The big question moving forward, of course, is how this will affect the Xbox Series X's console launch now that Microsoft's new gaming system no longer has its biggest game to launch alongside it. With both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 looming on the horizon, Microsoft no longer has its killer app to win players over Sony's offering. It will be interesting to see what comes of this news, as the year comes to an end. Fans also don't know exactly how long this delay will last. A 2021 delay could mean only a couple months, or it could be up to a year longer; time will tell.
But for those who are upset with this recent delay, it's important to remember an old quote by Super Mario developer
: “A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.” This quote continues to ring true, with dozens of games benefiting from delays over the years. When Halo Infinite does eventually launch sometime next year, players will be met with a better and more polished game than they may have gotten this year.Halo Infinite is set to release sometime in 2021 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
