Red Dead Online Update Rolled Back by Rockstar After Issues
The latest Red Dead Online update has been something of a disaster. Since it released, players have reported towns devoid of NPCs, horses running in place in the sky, and lots more breaking the experience for those that just want to live out their cowboy fantasies. Luckily for them, Rockstar is rolling back the most recent update on PS4 and Xbox One until it can be tidied up.
Rockstar made the announcement via its official support Twitter page, linking to a blog post detailing what went wrong with the update, ranging from animal spawns to network connectivity issues. Initially, the update was intended to provide a range of security improvements, but caused the wide smattering of issues. Rockstar didn't elaborate on an estimated time that the update will be re-released, though it is working on fixing Red Dead Online's glitches.
Rockstar recognized the issues with the Red Dead Online bugs on August 11, telling players it was aware of the problems, and that the developer was working on an update. The community's reaction to the news has been extremely poor, and not helped by the fact that Red Dead Online experienced a content drought shortly before the update launched.
The content drought was alleviated by the Naturalist update, which provided players with a new role to play through as well as other content, though any goodwill garnered among the community with that seems to have evaporated quickly. No game is entirely free of bugs, and the larger they are, the more bugs there tends to be, though this is certainly an extreme case.
Red Dead Redemption 2 players quickly began sharing bugs they've been encountering since the update released, with the issues being incredibly widespread. Some players have even reported issues within Red Dead's single-player campaign, though it doesn't seem to be having as many problems as the online portion of the game.
Some community members have pointed out how frustrating it is to see Grand Theft Auto Online continue to receive consistent support despite launching years before Red Dead. Grand Theft Auto 5 is getting a next-gen port, while none has been announced for Red Dead, not to mention GTA's numerous updates, which haven't caused issues like what Red Dead is experiencing.
Of course, Rockstar by no means intended to break the game, but it's easy to understand why the community is so upset. With any luck, the issues will be resolved sooner rather than later, but fans will just have to wait in the meantime.
Red Dead Online is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
