Serious Sam 4 Features a Popemobile Mech | Game Rant
The Serious Sam franchise is set to make a triumphant return this September and it looks like the new game will be utilizing new features to add to the insanity of the shooter game. The latest tease for Serious Sam 4 has unveiled a look at a new type of mech that players will have access to, which is sure to bring plenty of carnage.
Serious Sam 4 is intended to be a canon prequel to the previous Serious Sam games, telling the story of evil villain Mental's first attacks as well as revealing some more about Sam's origins. Unfortunately, Serious Sam 4 was recently hit with delays thanks to coronavirus and has been pushed back to a release date of September 24. Console players will also have to wait a while longer with the game releasing only on PC and Stadia initially, with a console release window set for 2021.
The new video released by Devolver Digital shows Sam suiting up in a mech suit titled the 'Popemobile,' which he gains from none other than the Vatican. The mech suit stands impressively tall, towering over many buildings and it looks like it packs some serious firepower with both machine guns and rocket launchers on board. In typical Serious Sam humor, the intercom announces the tagline "let God sort them out" before the video shows some POV footage of the Popemobile suit taking out waves of enemies.
Towards the end of the footage, the true enemy that the Popemobile will face is revealed. A giant many-eyed, tentacled monster emerges from the Vatican to face Sam, and it looks like the creature will be one of the biggest boss battles in the new game. Serious Sam 4 is already bringing back many of the classic monsters from the franchise, including the Harpies and Kamikaze bombers, but it seems there will be plenty of new monsters to face as well.
One of the added features in Serious Sam 4 that the devs have teased is a new legion system that will allow hundreds of thousands of enemies to render on-screen at once. Serious Sam is famous for its arcade style, with multiple waves of enemies to clear before advancing to a new area, and Serious Sam 4 looks like it will take this style up a notch with the number of enemies a player can face at one time. Thankfully, the addition of the Popemobile should level the playing field.
Serious Sam 4 will be released on September 24 for PC and Stadia.
