Turn-Based City Builder 'As Far As The Eye' Gets New Gameplay
Indie game developer Unexpected reveals new gameplay of As Far As The Eye, a turn-based city-builder with animal-style characters. The game is less like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and more like an adorable, mystical version of Cities: Skylines.
With a new gameplay trailer, Unexpected has confirmed that As Far As The Eye will be released on PC on September 10, 2020. The game follows a moving village of characters called "Pupils" as they try to escape an incoming flood by traveling towards "The Eye," which is the center of their world. The maps are procedurally generated, but the goal of moving towards The Eye stays the same.
As Far As The Eye doesn't make it easy for players though, as players have to search for treasures, level up their Pupils, and harvest items for crafting. This is a roguelike game, meaning that once the flood comes and washes away material things, new regions and new tribes will stay unlocked for the next playthrough.
While the characters in As Far As The Eye are "Pupils" and not animals, the art style and the warm tones chosen by the development team does give it a softer look compared to other city-builders. Anyone who enjoys other wholesome games, such as town life game Ooblets, will probably enjoy this.
The one issue the game may have, as many city-builders do, is that there is a lot going on in its screen. Having so many gameplay features isn't always a bad thing but Unexpected may need to create a good-sized tutorial to help new players know what they're doing.
As Far As The Eye releases on September 10, 2020 on PC.
