Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World Announced | Game Rant
Wonder Boy, a series that started back in 1986 in the arcades, is getting a brand new entry into the series. Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is set to release on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch at the beginning of 2021.
Asha in the Monster World is being developed by STUDIOARTDINK and ININ Games. Fans of retro games from the '80s and of the original Wonder Boy titles will be happy to learn that the series's creator Ryuichi Nishizawa is returning to help work on this new game. Additionally, the original composer, Shinichi Sakamoto will come back to work on the game's sound. Maki Ōzora will be the game's character designer, while the creative manager, Takanori Kurihara, is also coming back for Wonder Boy.
The action-platforming series has seen a few characters take over as the protagonist. In Asha in the Monster World, the hero from Wonder Boy IV, Asha, will be returning in what is considered the sequel to that 1994 classic Sega Genesis game. During Gamescom and the Awesome Indies showcase later in the week, on August 29th, the game and its gameplay will be fully revealed.
After a two-decade long hiatus, the series came back with Wonder Boy Returns on the PC in 2016. But it was the ports to the Nintendo Switch and PS4, and then 2017's Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap and 2018's Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom that allowed the series to triumphantly find some success again as some of the best indie games of year.
Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is set to release for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch in early 2021.
