Apex Legends Player Suggests Change to Help New Users | Game Rant
It's been more than a year and a half since Respawn Entertainment's Apex Legends dropped onto current-gen consoles, and the game has seen numerous changes in that time. Not only has the battle royale added Worlds Edge as its second map, but it has also added multiple characters such as the Quick Witted Modder Rampart. With so many additions, new players could likely feel overwhelmed with the systems in place, and this is where one player's idea comes into play.
One user on Reddit has suggested that Apex Legends include a "hero rotation" system to assist new players. A hero rotation is typically found in MOBA games like Heroes of the Storm, where players have access to a limited amount of characters for free in addition to the characters that have already been purchased by the user. The idea behind this rotation being put in is typically to allow new players to "try before they buy" a new character.
The Reddit user, vitorvan1993, is quick to point out that when Apex Legends first launched, there were 6 legends available to play as from the start with only 2 legends (Mirage and Caustic) that needed to be purchased. However, that ratio has drastically changed with the initial lineup remaining static at 6 legends, but now with 8 that must be unlocked through credits or microtransactions. And while this may not matter to players who have achieved level 500 in the game and still have plenty of credits to spare for when new legends release, the roster could be overwhelming for new players like those that will begin playing Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch this fall.
This hero rotation wouldn't just benefit those that are completely new to the game either. Crossplay will be coming to Apex Legends soon, however, Respawn Entertainment has said that cross-progression won't be coming along with that update. There is the possibility that some players would like to switch platforms but not have to start completely over. This addition would allow those players to be able to play as legends that they had on their previous profile without having to grind the 12,000 credits needed to re-purchase them.
This system has another application that vitorvan1993 doesn't outline in their post. Occasionally during an Apex Legends season, players will receive challenges such as scanning a certain amount of enemies with Crypto's drone, despite not owning Crypto. By adding a rotation into the game, players are perhaps more likely to spend more time attempting to complete their daily challenges and their battle pass since they would have an opportunity to do every challenge.
Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a version coming to Switch this fall.
