Classic CoD Killstreak May Be Returning in Black Ops Cold War
While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War may have been the subject of numerous leaks over the past several months, fans are still excited for the official multiplayer reveal taking place very soon, which will be broadcast over Twitch.
Some of the multiplayer was accidentally leaked via another Twitch stream, but the official one will no doubt show much more in terms of maps and modes. In fact, we could see a certain killstreak reward make its return if this teaser video is anything to go by.
The video posted to Twitter admittedly doesn't reveal a whole lot, but longtime fans of the Black Ops series quickly noticed something very familiar in the video. Specifically, what appears to be the RC-XD.
For those who may not know, the Remote Controlled Explosive Device (RC-XD) has featured in most of the Black Ops titles, with the exception of the third one (it was replaced with the slightly similar HC-XD), as a killstreak. Killstreaks are certain rewards players earn by killing opponents in a row without dying.
The RC-XD could be earned rather easily, needing only three kills in a row in the first game, and was, as the name suggests, a remote controlled car that players could use to flank and take out multiple enemies at once. Some maps even had shortcuts designed for it.
In the video, we can see what we're assuming is the RC-XD bound over a sand dune. Though there is nothing to directly confirm that this is the RC-XD, it looks almost exactly like it and, given that it has appeared frequently throughout the series, it's practically guaranteed to be included in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
The real question is how it will work in the new game. Could it have a slightly different control scheme? How will players earn it? Is it even a killstreak in the new game? Will it have new features? The way it bounds over the sand dune could suggest that it could jump slightly, but that's only speculation.
Hopefully, Activision and Treyarch will show it in action in tomorrow's stream, and maybe it will even be confirmed for Modern Warfare and Warzone's multiplayer. It's presence in those games could pave the way for new strategies.
Speaking of Warzone, players have unfortunately been suffering from a couple of nasty bugs that can shut down the entire game, effectively ruining matches.
One of these bugs could be brought about by driving vehicles out of bounds, but developer Infinity Ward has since removed vehicles for the time being while it tries to fix the issue.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will release for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
