Destiny 2 Beyond Light Pre-Load Date and Time Revealed

Destiny 2 is just under seven weeks away from its newest expansion, Beyond Light. As the launch creeps closer, the studio has been providing loads of news to talk about. Today, Bungie opened up about the expansion's pre-load times and related issues.

Very recently, Destiny 2 fans also got a glimpse at the brand new destination, Europa. There will certainly be more info released as the launch approaches, but players now know that they will be meeting old friends like Variks on the icy moon, as well as some never-before-seen enemy types.

Regardless, the latest article outlines a great deal of behind the scenes changes that will ensure a healthier life for Destiny 2. The revisions made have been extensive, and Engineering Director David Aldridge from Bungie informed players that the launch of Beyond Light will require a full re-download of the game on every platform.

However, to ease the rush of downloading the new expansion, pre-loads will open in the evening of November 9, Pacific Time. No exact hour is given, but everyone should expect to be able to pre-download the expansion 10 hours before the official launch, at the bare minimum. The good news is that the adjustments made to the game's inner workings, and the introduction of the Destiny Content Vault, mean that the install size of Destiny 2 will decrease by 30 to 40%.

Depending on the platform, the entire game will take up between 59 to 71GB on Beyond Light's release, and the team will pay close attention not to bloat its size going forward. All of this and more is the result of the engineering team's work on the content and patch pipeline re-format. The streamlining was further continued as the game's outdated assets were replaced by their upgraded counterparts. These efforts have made it possible for the team to ship a build of the game in less than half a day, whereas before, it would take nearly 24 hours to get new builds out to fans' hands.

What this means for the player experience is less time waiting for a critical hotfix to resolve a game-breaking bug. Players can also expect to see changes done to an expansion closer to its launch date, which means that community concerns can more easily be addressed between the reveal and release. This could be a crucial innovation for year 4's seasonal content, as fans have been frustrated with how current seasons repeat previous one's mistakes while Bungie hasn't had the time to react to the feedback.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available on November 10 for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. A PS5 version is also in development.
