Halle Berry Knew Catwoman Movie 'Didn't Feel Quite Right'

After winning an Oscar for 2001's Monster's Ball, Halle Berry very quickly started headlining movies. And though she was no stranger to playing comic book superheroes -- having portrayed Storm in X-Men and X2: X-Men United -- it was still a huge deal for the actress to leap to the screen in a standalone Catwoman movie. Of course, 2004's Catwoman was a massive misfire that many fans still consider one of the worst comic book adaptations of all time (if it can be called that considering how much was changed). Berry, speaking to Variety, spoke about her time on the film and what she wished had been done differently. "The story didn’t feel quite right," Berry explained. "I remember having that argument: ‘Why can’t Catwoman save the world like Batman and Superman do? Why is she just saving women from a face cream that cracks their face off?’" "But I was just the actor for hire," she continued. "I wasn’t the director. I had very little say over that." Kravitz, who was publicly congratulated by Berry on social media when she landed the role, revealed that she had to continue to train virtually during quarantine to prepare for the part. The Batman, now moved to an October 2021 release, isn't Kravitz's first time playing Catwoman. You may recall she voiced the character in 2017's The LEGO Batman Movie.
