Marvel's Avengers Details Faction and Community Challenges
Marvel's Avengers has technically launched, at least for those who pre-ordered its expensive Deluxe Edition. Yet there remains a surprising amount about the game that's been left unexplained, even as players are starting to experience it for themselves. Crystal Dynamics is trying to correct some of that with Marvel's Avengers' full launch nearing. The team dropped a new blog exploring some of the games endgame systems including Faction-based Assignments and Community Challenges.
In a blog post named "Marvel's Avengers: Everything You Need to Know About Weekly Play" Crystal Dynamics breaks down the endgame grind that players will be participating in. Events are what Crystal Dynamics is calling the looped content that will stay fresh and hopefully keep players invested. Events include four main categories: Missions, Assignments, Hero Challenge Cards, and Community Challenges.
Missions will include "modified" versions of those players have already experienced with new rewards. There will also be two new Mission types introduced after launch, a weekend co-op style of Mission and a "challenging gauntlet of solo play" style of Mission.
Assignments and Hero Challenge Cards aren't like Missions, in that they aren't playable. They're meta challenges that are completed through playing other types of content. Assignments specifically allow players to complete for the game's Factions, like SHIELD and the Inhumans. Completing Assignments grants reputation with a Faction, which unlocks new rewards. Hero Challenge Cards, when completed, grant experience through a specific character's Hero's Card and unlocks rewards just for that hero.
Community Challenges are meta challenges like Assignments and Hero Challenge Cards, but on a much bigger scale. The example that Crystal Dynamics gives is tasking the entire Marvel's Avengers player base to destroy 500,000. Community Challenges are available weekly and grant a unique reward to all participants. It's also noted that PlayStation gamers get an exclusive Community Challenge just for the platform.
That's not all of the content available endgame, of course. There are also rotating vendors and marketplaces, as well as the Outposts and Operations detailed in Crystal Dynamics' most-recent Round Table. Operations are especially exciting, as they feature new story missions, new locations, and even new gameplay mechanics. They also, as Crystal Dynamics announced this past week, will feature new characters.
Kate Bishop, Hawkeye's protege, will be the focus of Marvel's Avengers' very first post-launch Operation. There were also hints regarding a similar Operation for Black Panther, which may have been delayed due to the passing of actor Chadwick Boseman. Expect to hear more about the future of Marvel's Avengers in the weeks and months to come.
Marvel's Avengers releases September 4 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X support to follow.
