New Destiny 2 Trailer Could Mean Big Things for the Story Moving Forward

Bungie just released a new trailer for Destiny 2: Beyond Light showcasing Europa in its fullest. Among the many awe inspiring scenes was a shot of an Exo next to a Vex frame, hinting at a possible major story reveal.

Avid players already knew that the upcoming Destiny 2 expansion will heavily feature the Vex and the Exos. While the story regarding the Darkness was kept vague, the trailer also teased the deeper connections Europa has to the pyramids via never-before-seen ominous structures players will get to explore.

Nevertheless, fans also got a close look at a new Golden Age facility on the Jovian moon, namely the Bray Exo Science labs. Among its brightly lit research stations is a clear tube, housing a seemingly empty Exo frame, backed up against a lifeless Vex Goblin frame.

This could have huge implications as the Vex are the least well known of Destiny's aliens. Since the Vex are a much more ancient species than humans, the only logical guess is that the Exo race was modeled after the Vex. This is a big revelation but not entirely unexpected because the owner of the facility, Clovis Bray, is a highly mysterious and shady organization in the lore.

The Clovis Bray corporation is responsible for many of the technological wonders in Destiny including SIVA, Warmind Rasputin, and the Exo program. This simple shot could be teasing how Clovis Bray used enemy technology to shoot way ahead of its competition and how it could build an AI as advanced as Rasputin.

The Shadowkeep Collector's Edition lore book also notes that Clovis Bray had entered a war with the Vex in the past, only to conceal it due to the risks of publicizing such information. It might've captured enemy units for study, and later on, to replicate. This might also be what Cayde-6 was referring to at the end of the Forsaken campaign, when he taunted Clovis Bray about revealing a particularly dire secret.

However, the connections don't end there. The Exo Stranger, one of the main characters of Beyond Light, can effortlessly travel through time and space, much like the Vex. Her iconic weapon too seems to have ties to Vex time-travel technology. Thus, said image from the trailer could also explain how the Exo Stranger became so proficient in the ways of the Vex.

Lastly, Exo dreams of a place called the Deep Stone Crypt (DSC), the location of which was unknown until the Beyond Light's reveal. Alongside Bray facilities, the latest trailer showcased a Vex gate as well, very similar to the Black Garden gate from Season of the Undying. This Vex Gate could once again open to the Black Garden, clarify why DSC was chosen to be built there or why Clovis Bray decided to hide its location.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available on November 10 for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The PS5 version should be available November 12 for PS5.
