Persona 5: A Step By Step Guide To Unlocking The True Ending
Persona 5 is a game with so many choices to tailor to each player's experience throughout the story, and this is only accelerated by all the new content that came with Royal. This includes how the whole story comes to a close, with six possible endings that players lead themselves down. Naturally, the worst endings are the easiest to come by, having players strenuously searching for the path to a happy one. The most specific and hard to come by is the ''true ending," a unique feature considering most games have a very linear path.
Getting to this elusive finish is easier said than done. Multiple requirements have to be met and certain choices made. Even further, most of them have to be met by specific dates and leave a lot of room for player error. Considering the only way to find out what path was taken is by completing the game, a lot of effort can be wasted on an unsatisfying conclusion. That's why it's always best to know what's in store and how to follow the path to the truth. Preparation is a necessity, not a choice.
6 Things To Look Out For
Even if players follow all of these steps there are still some places to mess it all up, veering from the tightly guided path to the true ending into a severe spin to a bad ending. Both on September 1st and February 2nd are choices that can clearly steer the player wrong, both are very obvious and don't need an explanation, avoid them at all costs.
All palaces also have to be completed in their respective timelines, completely doable for those that don't slack off but if they're not completed then it locks the endings permanently.
5 Takuto Maruki
The first step in the chain is getting the confidant level for Maruki up to 9 before November 17th. This is key to unlocking the 3rd semester of the school year and leading up to all the content players will need to proceed. The fastest way to do so would be hanging out with him while his arcana ''The Councillor'' is equipped, giving players bonus points and speeding up the process.
He's only found in school building and available on Mondays and Fridays after May 13th. This leaves 7 months and 4 days to get to rank 9, with the end goal being 10. No effort is required after November 17th as the story will naturally take players to the last rank automatically. Throughout the progression of the confidant rankings, players will gradually unlock bonus's, the best of which is Wakefulness, an ability that rapidly increases SP recovery.
4 Kasumi Yoshizawa
This is an entirely optional choice but it will give the player the most context going into the ending and ultimately improve the whole experience. She's the most prominent new member of the group available in Royal, making the confidant relationship that much easier to level up. Luckily, players can also get into a romantic relationship and really supercharge the time limit.
The ''Faith'' arcana must be equipped to get the most out of every interaction and Rank 4 has to be completed by December 22nd. In school, she can be found after class and in Kichijoji. Players can't go beyond rank 5 until after that date and it won't affect the ending in any way after. If players want to continue the confidant leveling, Rank 6 is locked until January 13th and 5 has to be reached beforehand otherwise it shuts down progression.
3 Goro Akechi
Persona 5 Royal gives players some added content that requires Goro Akechi's confidant rank to be a priority. The deadline is still November 17th but it only requires a rank 8, turning down the intensity of the hangouts. If the Justice arcana will have to be equipped before hanging out then it should be a breeze. Players will have to find Goro in Kichijoji and the Darts & Billiard Bar on Wednesdays and Saturdays, in July and August it's also Tuesdays.
Rank 3 will require the protagonist to have Charm and Knowledge both leveled up to 3 or it won't work. Rank 7 requires knowledge leveled up to 4 and only after November 2nd.
2 Sae's Interrogation
On November 20th players will be interrogated by Sae, leading to a series of questions that must be answered correctly. The golden rule is don't be a snitch, no information must be revealed or cooperation given during the course of the interview. The only person that you can let slip is Goro Akechi, this won't affect anything but the player's sense of decency.
1 Turn Down Igor
The last choice in the chain and a plot twist most didn't see coming. The custodian of the velvet room has some serious secrets to tell the gang and an offer that will affect the outcome of the entire game. If the proposal is accepted then a good ending will be presented but that's not what players want, refuse the sneaky character and the path to the true ending will be revealed.
Beating Igor once in the proceeding fight will then take players on the road to the Holy Grail, this is where his true form will have to beaten at the end of Mementos. Once this long process is completed, the true and best ending will finally unlock and players can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.
