Super Mario 64: Where to Find the Blue Switch | Game Rant
After some hype and a bit of incredulity, Super Mario 3D All-Stars has been unleashed onto the gaming scene. Although it was first revealed through a corroborated leak, there were and are still details about the games in All-Stars that some players don't know.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a limited-time product on the Switch. This news led to fans buying the game in droves. Many players who are new to the trio of included titles are already seeking out the secrets hidden within each game. These are perhaps most plentiful in Super Mario 64, with three switches opening up many paths in the game, and players will want to find the Blue Switch in order to unlock a cap that lets them walk through walls.
The first step in finding the Blue Switch is to head down into the castle basement after defeating Bowser in the Dark World. Standing in the main chamber of the basement, players should face the door that leads to Hazy Maze Cave where players find the Green Switch, but that's not the destination here. If players turn 180 degrees to the right and take that pathway, there will be a wooden door leading to two submerged platforms that can be ground pounded.
Pounding those platforms drains the moat around the castle, which uncovers a hole that players can drop down. It's a secret stage, but unlike the one where players unlock the Wing Cap, this challenge is all about platforming. There are eight red coins to collect, four on the slide (which requires jumping from platform to platform) and four scattered through an obstacle course. After that, players will find the Star trapped in a cage.
The point of this stage is to find the Blue "!" Switch at the end. If players have reached it, all they have to do is press that to unlock Blue Blocks. These provide access to the Vanish Cap, which makes Mario temporarily invisible and lets him jump through certain walls, including the nearby cage. However, players will need to hop through it fast, because the Vanish Cap power-up doesn't last very long.
After completing the stage, Vanish Cap blocks stay unlocked throughout the castle. There aren't many, but there are enough to experiment in new levels. In the DS remake of Mario 64 this power-up was given to Luigi, but despite long-time rumors the green brother will not appear on this version of the adventure.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars is available for the Nintendo Switch.
