Super Mario Galaxy: How to Unlock Luigi | Game Rant
Super Mario Galaxy is one of the titles players can access as part of the recently released Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection. These games have mostly stayed the same in terms of their features and secrets waiting to be unlocked by players new and old.
One well-known secret in Super Mario Galaxy is the ability to play as Luigi throughout the game instead of Mario. While this is something that many Luigi fans would like to do, unlocking this ability is going to take a lot of time and effort to complete.
In order to unlock Luigi, players will need to collect all 120 stars in Super Mario Galaxy. This essentially mean that players will have to complete the normal version of the game 100 percent before being able to take on space as the fearful ghost hunter.
Playing as Luigi isn't just a cosmetic difference, as he controls differently from Mario. Compared to his older brother, Luigi jumps higher and runs faster. However, Luigi also stops slower, which may lead to him falling off ledges more easily.
What makes this worth getting is that players aren't just given Luigi in a completed game where they can't do much else. After unlocking Luigi, a new version of Super Mario Galaxy will also be unlocked that is known as Super Luigi Galaxy. In a way, this means that completing the game as Mario will cause players to only be halfway toward total completion.
Luigi's differences aren't just in how high he jumps and his struggle with stopping quickly. He additionally loses air at a slightly faster rate than Mario when underwater, and has a shorter horizontal leap. These differences will add a new level challenge for players in their second time through the game.
Just like the main version of Super Mario Galaxy, there are 120 stars for players to collect in Super Luigi Galaxy. After getting all of these stars as Luigi, a final purple coin mission will be available around Peach's Castle. By combining the total amount of stars from both Mario and Luigi, there are 242 stars for players to collect in the game. Certain missions will additionally change to fit Luigi more in Super Luigi Galaxy, such as the title of the mission "Mario Meets Mario" being changed to "Luigi Meets Mario".
Super Mario Galaxy is now available as part of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
