Tekken Series Has Sold Over 50 Million Copies | Game Rant
While sales numbers aren't the only deciding factor in whether a game will stand the test of time, it can be a major indicator of how successful a series is. Katsuhiro Harada, the Tekken franchise's producer and director, announces a huge sales milestone for Tekken 7, as well as the entirety of the Tekken series.
Many fans of Tekken 7 are currently looking forward to additional moves, UI adjustment, and a new ranking system that are coming with Tekken 7 Season 4, which was leaked by Bandai Namco itself after the company accidentally posted a video detailing the season roadmap as well as a new character for the roster. Some information has been officially released since are sales numbers for the Tekken series.
Harada, known both for his signature sunglasses and the huge influence he's had on the fighting game scene, announced on his official Twitter account that Tekken 7 has hit over six million sales, helping bring the total number of sales for the series up over 50 million. These are no small numbers, and this goes to show how far the franchise has come since Tekken 1 released in 1994.
Tekken 7 has been out for over five years, so while some may consider this a small achievement compared to titles like The Last of Us 2 selling four million copies in its first weekend alone, it was no small feat. It's also great news for a game that is available online, as it means there are plenty of people who have at least bought the game, and therefore there is more of a chance that other players will be available to battle against.
Bandai Namco's livestream for this year's Tokyo Game Show revealed a new fighter for Tekken 7, Kunimitsu, so it's clear that even though the game has been out for a few years now, there's still support and new content coming out to appease fans. With the new fighter will come a lot of UI improvements that will hopefully make the game an even smoother and more enjoyable experience for all players.
Although there are a variety of fighting games available for people to pick, including Mortal Kombat 11 and Dragon Ball FighterZ, there's are still players who prefer Tekken 7. These sales numbers show that the franchise has been pretty successful, and hopefully this success means there will be even more new content and features — or even a new entry — coming soon.
Tekken 7 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
