Untitled Goose Game: How to Play Co-Op | Game Rant

Of all the games that have won multiple Game of the Year awards, Untitled Goose Game is definitely one of the most unusual. In a medium with countless shooters, platformers, and open-world games, players have found something refreshing about a game where all one does is run around as a goose and harass people. And now they can run around and harass people with a friend, because the game now has co-op.

Sometimes, the best way to spice something up is to just add more of it, which must have been developer House House’s thinking when it added two-player co-op to Untitled Goose Game in a free update this week. Now that it’s possible to have two geese causing mischief in the game’s quaint English town, players can approach the game’s challenges and terrorize the townspeople in all new ways.

Naturally, players are first going to need two controllers in order to play together. This means co-op will likely be easiest to set up on consoles, since most players will likely have at least one extra controller hanging around. The Switch is especially easy to play co-op on, since players only need a single Joy-Con to control each goose. Things may be a little trickier for PC players, but as long as players have a spare controller, one can use a mouse and keyboard while the other uses the controller.

As for setting things up in-game, the process is rather painless. Upon starting up Untitled Goose Game, players will be given the option to play with either one or two players. Once they select co-op, all they have to do from there is follow the onscreen instructions and each press a button when prompted, at which point they’ll be free to set their geese loose upon the town.

Players about to try out the co-op for the first time may still have a few questions about it, namely if it adds anything to the game aside from an increase in the number of geese. The answer to that is no, as the game’s levels and challenges are the same as they are in single-player. Also, aside from the fact that the second goose has a different honk and a slightly larger bill, there is no discernable difference between the two geese and how they play.

A few other things worth pointing out is that there is no split-screen support, unlike other co-op games, and while other games tend to focus the camera on one player, this one doesn’t, instead choosing to put up an invisible wall if players stray too far from one another. Lastly, since Untitled Goose Game’s co-op is local, there’s no way to play with a friend online outside of methods like Steam’s Remote Play Together and the PS4’s Share Play.

Untitled Goose Game is available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
