Best Buy Customers Can Pick Up PS5, Xbox Series X Pre-Orders By Appointment
People who preordered their PS5 or Xbox Series X/S through Best Buy will have the chance to schedule an appointment to pick up their new consoles.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S were quick to sell out at retailers when they went live for preorders in September, and Best Buy was no exception. Fans who made their purchase through Best Buy now have the opportunity to book an appointment to pick up their console to avoid the long lines on launch day. The company alerted people who preordered the consoles by sending out emails to remind them to schedule appointments. The appointments are not mandatory, however, and players can still pick up new console by walking in or through curb-side pick up on launch day.
So while people who preordered the PS5 could get their console at launch a little easier, it's not limited to the PS5; the Xbox Series X will have a similar event on November 10. The scheduling defaults to November 10, causing some to become confused about whether or not the PS5 can be picked up early. The simple answer is no, the system will need to be changed to November 12 IF picking up a PS5.
Those who book an appointment will have to choose a half-hour time slot between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. local time to make the pickup. If someone arrives before or after the scheduled time, they may have to wait longer than normal to get their new console. According to the emails, all that is necessary to successfully pick the order up is a valid ID and the order confirmation for the purchase. Because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, consumers will be required to wear face coverings when picking up their new console.
For those who did not get to preorder a new console because stock ran out, a recent Best Buy ad for the store’s Black Friday specials suggests that there will be more Xbox Series X/S and PS5s available to order through November 22. Best Buy is also offering sales on several Xbox and PlayStation titles for Black Friday for fans who might want to stock up on new games for the holidays.
It remains unlikely that any retailer will get new PS5 and Xbox Series X/S preorders before launch, but rumors continue to circulate that some retailers might have some new consoles available on the day of launch.
The PS5 launches on November 12 and Xbox Series X/S launches on November 10.
