Destiny 2 Theory Thinks Old D1 Image Could be Significant
In some ways, it's a bit hard to believe that Destiny has been around for six years. The franchise still feels fresh to many, but simultaneously, the series also seems like it has been with gamers for so much longer. Along with enjoying the game itself, many fans have fun keeping up with news, theorizing what could come next, and simply spending time within the world of Destiny. Recently, one fan found something incredibly intriguing when digging through images of the original Destiny, as it could hint at content that is still on the way for Destiny 2.
The lore of Destiny is so vast that whole Reddit pages are dedicated to finding out the game's mysteries. r/RaidSecrets is a page dedicated to the secrets and tricks of Destiny. It is designed to be a place where hunters can meet up in hopes to solve some of the biggest puzzles the game has to offer. Reddit user u/GerbSnai recently took to the page to share an interesting find.
The user posted a theory about new locations for Destiny 2 that were hinted at years ago. The image itself is a pre-launch shot of matchmaking in Destiny 1. The final game had a similar look, in terms of seeing spacecraft flying through the air while waiting for a mission to load, but there are slight differences. The biggest thing to note, however, is that the name "Tomb of the Dead Star" is on the bottom left of the image, indicating that players are getting ready to land in this area. But Tomb of the Dead Star has never appeared in Destiny.
u/GerbSnai is guessing that the Tomb of the Dead Star is about a place that is mentioned in the collector's edition of Destiny 2. There are rumors of an artificially maintained star from before the time of the game. It could be that players will visit this location and find that the star is now dead.
The old image could simply be a location that Bungie had in store for the game at one point, but it was canned in development. It is very normal for developers to start out with many more ideas and locales than the final product sees. Sometimes those ideas turn into DLC, and Destiny 2, of course, is a game that receives continuous post-launch content.
This is not the first image that Destiny fans have dissected, and it certainly won't be the last. Bungie created a massive universe to explore and lore that seems to fill every nook and cranny of the experience. With such a big fan base, there is no doubt that mysteries will be uncovered with enough digging.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light releases November 10, 2020, for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 version will be available on November 12.
