Google's Halloween Doodle is a Playable Game About Magic Cats
With each holiday or major event, Google releases one of its classic Google Doodles to commemorate it. Sometimes these can be educational, like when a famous person has a birthday or the like. Other times, though, they are purely festive in nature. Such is the case with this month's Halloween doodle, as it is actually a mini game about a magic black cat fighting a ghost.
If this sounds somewhat familiar to anyone, then they must be Google doodle fanatics. As it happens, this is actually a continuation of a story that began on Halloween in 2016. Part 1 as it is called was similar in gameplay, style, and music, only differing by locale and boss fights.
The player's character in this playable Google Doodle is a black cat with a host of magician friends. The cat is stationary throughout the entire game, but can use magic to defend himself and vanquish his foes before they can reach him. To do so, the player has to draw specific shapes onto the screen as indicated by the approaching enemy. This is really simple but it can actually get a bit difficult at times when there are a lot of enemies.
Thankfully, the player has five hit points to account for any mistakes they happen to make, and there are powerups throughout the five levels that allow them to heal, get a shield, or inflict heavy damage on an enemy. The game is a great way to kill a little bit of time, and is surprisingly fun despite (or perhaps because of) its simplistic and goofy design.
