Hades Developer Reveals Favorite Weapon Aspect | Game Rant
The launch of Hades v1.0 has finally taken the game out of early access, and players have been quick to jump into the Underworld and discover everything the game has to offer, like bosses, weapons, and the unique weapon aspects. Everyone has their own favorite way to play, including the developers at Supergiant Games that designed the weapons of Hades.
In a recent interview with Game Rant, Hades Creative Director Greg Kasavin revealed what his own personal favorite weapon aspect in the game is. Considering how many weapons and aspects are available in the game, picking one is certainly a tough call, but from a design standpoint, Kasavin's clear winner is one that has the most unique impact on gameplay.
When responding to a question about which weapon aspect was Kasavin's favorite, the developer answered that it was "...like asking me to pick a favorite child!" However, considering the various weapon aspects in Hades offhand, Kasavin chose the Aspect of Zeus for Aegis, Shield of Chaos, thanks to the way it changes the normal boomerang-like behavior of the weapon. Specifically, Kasavin states,
"The Weapon Aspects system is one of my favorite parts of the whole game in how these different transformations dramatically affect my playstyle and look really distinct as well. If I'm going to pick one just offhand, I'll go with the Aspect of Zeus for Aegis, Shield of Chaos. Normally the Shield can be quickly boomerang-thrown, but the Aspect of Zeus creates this slow-moving whirling dervish of a lighting storm. You can learn to place it and recall it when needed, adding complex new considerations during battle."
This is, of course, only one example of how the weapon aspects can completely change up the way players delve into the Underworld and challenge different groups of enemies and bosses. Combat isn't the only way that weapon aspects and boons can affect the gameplay, as different upgrades and gear can even affect the dialogue and story in Hades as well. Kasavin has even commented on this before, responding to fans on Twitter that the development process made adding new features to the game somewhat more fluid.
Considering the massive number of weapons and aspects available in the game, picking one that isn't a favorite just for being at the top of the meta is likely a tough choice for any player. So, asking Greg Kasavin to pick one of the key features that he designed that the developer would consider his favorite is definitely a tough ask for any creator. The choice of the unique way that Aspect of Zeus changes Aegis, Shield of Chaos, however, is an interesting decision thanks to the way that it shows Kasavin's focus on design is what informs his favorite features of Hades.
Hades is available now for PC and Switch.
