Pokemon Sword and Shield Dynamax Adventure Shiny Chance Is Very High
The recent release of Pokemon Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra DLC has given fans of the Switch games a lot of new content to work through. Much of the area added to the Galar Region is focused on Legendary Pokemon and mythology, with players able to track down Calyrex and its trusty steed, catch new Regis, or find Galarian forms of the Kanto birds. The new Dynamax Adventure feature also leans into Legendary catching, but it apparently also has a big draw for shiny hunters.
In Dynamax Adventures, teams of four trainers make their way through a den of Dynamax Pokemon using rental monsters, and at the end of a three-Pokemon gauntlet are able to encounter nearly every Legendary Pokemon from previous titles. Based on new information provided by self-proclaimed Pokemon researcher SciresM on Twitter, the highest odds of encountering at least one shiny during this gauntlet is 1/25 for players with a shiny charm.
SciresM is a member of the community "Project Pokemon," which has been active since at least 2009 and is dedicated to producing research reports on the inner-workings of Pokemon games, as well as developing tools to "enhance" them. They say Dynamax Adventures in Sword and Shield use "cryptographically secure randomness," meaning any shiny a player encounters will have stars rather than squares.
The major caveat to this system is that players will not know which, if any, of the Pokemon they catch are shiny until they finish a run through the Dynamax Adventure den. Pokemon do not appear shiny when battled. Everyone can catch one of each Legendary guaranteed, and they are not excluded from the high chance of having an alternate coloration.
Not every Legendary Pokemon returning in Crown Tundra is available exclusively through Dynamax Adventures. Like the original Regi trio and the newly-released Regidrago and Regieleki, the Gen 5 "Swords of Justice" Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion can be encountered on the overworld by completing Professor Sonia's research side quest.
A plethora of Legendary encounters are not the only pieces of content added to Sword and Shield thanks to its second DLC expansion, though that does make up the vast majority. Players can also unlock the Galarian Star Tournament feature by completing every Legendary Clue and tracking down the Swords of Justice, which opens up double-battle opportunities with various important characters from the base game and its DLC.
Pokemon Sword and Shield are available now on Nintendo Switch.
