Red Dead Redemption 2 Fan Creates Cigarette Cards for Dutch’s Gang
Fan creators continue to be a backbone of video gaming communities, and often contribute content that supplements the game in a way that other fans love. One Red Dead Redemption 2 fan posted some especially creative images that show off some of the Van Der Linde Gang on cigarette cards, a type of trading card that was popular when RDR2 is set.
Red Dead Redemption 2 and its online version are richly detailed games, and many players will spend hours exploring every element and feature. The game itself is Wild West-themed, and takes place in 1899, when the outlaw lifestyle was starting to die in a major part the United States. RDR2 has some anachronisms, like many historical-themed video games, but much of the game can make the player feel like they're actually living out an Old West life (virtually).
Reddit user Beamedx used image editing software to create some renditions of what Dutch's Gang might look like if they were on cigarette cards. These trading cards were popular near the end of the 1800s and often depicted figures well-known in pop culture of the time, like sports stars and influential political figures. Of course, the Van Der Linde Gang didn't really exist, but it may interest some fans to see some of the members of Dutch's Gang depicted like they might've been if they were real.
There are cards for antihero Arthur Morgan, John Marston, Dutch Van Der Linde, Hosea Matthews, Javier Escuella, Bill Williamson, Sadie Adler, Kieran Duffy, Micah Bell, Sean Maguire, and Lenny Summers. While the full membership of the Van Der Linde Gang is higher than just eleven characters, these are some of the most well-loved and most-hated characters in the game.
While the cards got a lot of positive remarks, several commentators had key suggestions to make for one particular member of the gang: the much-hated Micah Bell. One user compared the outlaw to a rat, while another said they liked the image of Micah better from the epilogue when he was bleeding out. The RDR2 fandom doesn't agree on everything, but virtually every member of the community hates Micah for being traitorous, racist, murderous, and generally abusive.
With how critically acclaimed RDR2 was, many fans are getting excited for the potential Red Dead Redemption 3, with lots of speculation about who the game's protagonist would be, as well as other details and features fans hope to see. Until Rockstar confirms a sequel, fans will have to satisfy themselves with hunting for details in RDR2 and admiring or creating fan works like this.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
