Spider-Man: Miles Morales First Look at J Jonah Jameson is Strange
With the release date of Spider-Man: Miles Morales just a few weeks away, Game Informer has been doing its best to slowly drip feed fans early-information about the upcoming standalone expansion. From a better look at Miles' combat style to the tease of a crime-fighting cat that can assist Spider-Man in battle, the coverage has offered several brief clips that establish some interesting new details about Insomniac's newest web-slinging adventure.
Today, the publication posted yet another new, one-minute promo, this time confirming that a notorious Spider-Man side-character will feature within the game. That character is none other than J Jonah Jameson, the strong-worded head of the Daily Bugle that, in Marvel's Spider-Man, had turned his attention to a podcast called Just the Facts.
Of course, fans of Spider-Man know that J Jonah Jameson is hardly a fan of the wall-crawling superhero, often using his platform as a journalist and now a podcast host to slander Spidey. It seems he'll play a similar role in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, however, this time, fans will finally get to see the iconic reporter in the flesh rather than just hearing his voice during his podcast. That being said, J Jonah Jameson's reveal within Game Informer's clip is somewhat unconventional, to say the least, with the character not facing the camera and popping up in a Santa Claus costume.
Taking place in what appears to be a crowded shopping mall during the Christmas season, Jameson makes his appearance during the Rhino setpiece shown off frequently in Game Informer's coverage. As Miles and Peter attempt to lead Rhino out of the shopping complex, the two burst through a wall into a live recording of Just the Facts, startling Jameson who's busy practicing the delivery of his daily Spider-Man slander. As the pair zip through with the armored super-villain in tow, Miles and Peter naturally stop to drop some quips about his festive get-up before soaring out into the streets below.
Revealed by Game Informer's Alex Stadnik during the beginning of the clip, Cristoph Gage, a long-time Spider-Man comics writer, has penned all of Jameson's dialogue. Allegedly, Gage was purely brought onto the project to tackle the iconic character, with Insomniac firmly believing that he writes the character "better than anyone." Jameson was unsurprisingly a huge highlight of the original game, with a number of Marvel's Spider-Man's major story events getting a rundown by the larger than life reporter on his podcast. Hopefully, he'll make for a similar highlight when Spider-Man: Miles Morales drops alongside the release of the PlayStation 5.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 12.
