Spider-Man Remastered: Digital Artist Reimagines Peter Parker as Andrew Garfield, More
Those who are interested in the Spider-Man Remastered game may be aware of the controversy surrounding one important change: Peter Parker's face model has been recast. Although this change has angered many fans, one artist took a different direction by portraying Peter Parker with two entirely different face models: Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield.
Many people are excited about the graphics and visual updates coming to Spider-Man Remastered, which is updating the original 2018 game for the PS5's level of quality. However, some fans were blindsided when they found out they wouldn't be seeing John Bubniak's face in the game anymore, but Ben Jordan's. The reason Insomniac Games gave for the swap was that Jordan's face better matches with Yuri Lowenthal, the VA.
Some fans don't buy the reasoning that the new Peter Parker face model is for better visual quality, and the Internet is split over what is quickly shaping up to be Spider-Man Remastered's biggest controversy. However, a digital character artist decided to capitalize on the hype over Parker's face by showing players what some other iconic Spider-Man actors might look like in Sony's web-slinging game.
The artist goes by Samuel_Cheve on Instagram, and his digital art rendering is very tongue-in-cheek by titling itself the "PS6" version of Spider-Man Remastered. Anyone who's watched these Spider-Man movies can instantly recognize Holland or Garfield as Peter Parker, as the digital artistry itself is clearly very skilled and true to life. Of course, both Holland's and Garfield's casting as the popular superhero had their own fair share of naysayers, since everyone has their opinion on whatever new actor is representing Peter.
This artist's posts are a lot more positive than some other fans' reactions, as one of the Spider-Man Remastered devs has been threatened over the change by a supposed fan. Every community has aggressive members, and some fans choose to take their frustrations with a digital image out on real-life people. Thankfully, there will always be creators in these communities who choose to make something positive and unique, bringing something uplifting to the conversation.
The voice actor for Peter Parker is staying the same, as the prolific Yuri Lowenthal can still be heard in a trailer portraying Peter Parker's new looks. The VA even tweeted in defense of the devs, joking that the change was his fault because of his facial features, calling for people to blame his "stupid bones" instead of Insomniac Games.
Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales releases November 12 for PS4 and PS5.
