Spider-Man's Miles Morales Describes Relationship With Spider-Man PS4 Actor
Sometimes games and movies reflect reality, and this is apparent in the story of two of the actors in the Spider-Man games, specifically the recently-remastered PS4 game and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The voice actor for the titular character in that second game, Nadji Jeter, reveals that he had an important relationship with Peter Parker's voice actor, Yuri Lowenthal.
Nadji Jeter and Yuri Lowenthal aren't just known for their roles in the Spider-Man games. Jeter got his start in film and television acting, where notable titles include the Grown Ups movies and Reed Between the Lines. Yuri Lowenthal is over twice as old as Jeter, so understandably he has more experience in the voice acting world, and is well-known for providing the voices for Ben Tennyson in Ben 10 and Sasuke Uchiha in Naruto, among other roles.
Jeter voiced and mo-capped Miles Morales in Spider-Man and the upcoming Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which means he worked in the same studio as Lowenthal on the 2018 game. An interview with Game Informer reveals that Nadji Jeter looks at Yuri Lowenthal as a mentor figure, similar to how Miles Morales looks up to Peter Parker in the games. Because Miles was Jeter's first big role in voice acting, he relied on Lowenthal for guidance, asking the older actor for tips on how to "swing" in the booth.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a coming-of-age story, and in some ways, Jeter came into his own as a voice actor during the recording of the Spider-Man games. Lowenthal was there for him while learning difficult techniques like the aforementioned swinging sounds, especially as Miles doesn't swing in the first game. Jeter adds that he has a lot of love for the other voice actor, and explains that the close relationship viewers can see in the games extends to real life as well.
Previously, Nadji Jeter had shared other looks behind the scenes, like images of him in the motion capture suit and face camera that Insomniac implemented to increase graphic fidelity. All of Jeter's and Lowenthal's hard work will hopefully pay off when players get to experience Spider-Man: Miles Morales next month, along with the many hours devs have put in.
Although Spider-Man: Miles Morales is under a ton of pressure to be a great game, it's great to know that at least there's no in-studio beef for fans to worry about. Hopefully, Jeter and Lowenthal's real-life closeness will translate to good acting chemistry in the scenes between Peter and Miles in Miles Morales.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 12.
