Destiny 2 Nerfs New Warlock Stasis Subclass | Game Rant

Destiny 2: Beyond Light, the latest expansion for Bungie's popular first-person shooter, has been a financial success thus far. After releasing on November 10, Destiny 2 claimed two top-selling spots on Steam for its launch week. However, players have had their share of issues with the new content introduced by Beyond Light, and in today's "This Week at Bungie" community update, the developer said it intends to address the overpowered Warlock Shadebinder subclass in particular.

Beyond Light revolves around Stasis, a new element that lets Guardians embrace the power of the Darkness. Three new Guardian subclasses were introduced to embody this power: The Hunter Revenant, Titan Behemoth, and Warlock Shadebinder. Players have discovered an infinite super glitch for Shadebinder among other concerns, and Bungie released Hotfix 3.0.0.3 in order to "rein Shadebinders back in while still maintaining their overall efficacy and power fantasy."

Bungie said, "Enemies around the solar system are shaking in fear of your Stasis powers, including your fellow Guardians in the Crucible," as evidenced by feedback that it can be "frustrating" to fight against Shadebinder players in particular. However, the developer is targeting its changes primarily at PvP, as it said the "'cosmic ice' wizard fantasy" is important to maintain for Destiny 2's PvE experience.

The full list of Stasis-related patch notes provided by Bungie are as follows:

  • Stasis Breakout Damage reduced (110 -> 90hp).
  • Adjusted the curve that reduces breakout damage using resilience.
  • Increased the damage reduction effect resilience has so that higher tiers of Resilience are more valuable.
  • Caps out at 90 Resilience.
  • Penumbral Blast (Stasis Warlock Melee)  projectile speed reduced by 20 percent.
  • Penumbral Blast (Stasis Warlock Melee) range reduced (was 28m, now 16m).
  • Winter Wrath (Stasis Warlock Super) duration reduced (30s -> 24s).
  • Winters Wrath Light Attack (Stasis Warlock Super) cost reduced (5 percent per burst -> 4.5 percent per burst).
  • Cold Snap seeker speed reduced by 23 percent.
  • Cold Snap freeze duration lowered (4.75s -> 1.35s).
  • Ice Flare Bolts freeze duration lowered (4.75s -> 1.35s).
  • Penumbral Blast (Stasis Warlock Melee) freeze duration lowered (4.75s -> 1.35s).
  • Winters Wrath Heavy attack (Stasis Warlock Super) no longer affects players who are not encased.

While the Hotfix also adjusts issues such as the Coriolis Force Fusion Rifle getting extra ammo from Ammo Bricks or the Spider Tank not spawning on Exodus Crash, Stasis is its primary concern. Given Stasis supers have been powerful enough to melt Raid bosses, it makes sense to pull that back for general matchmaking.

Issues have been discovered in more areas than just Beyond Light's new subclasses. For example, Bungie had to disable Destiny 2: Season of the Hunt's latest Lost Sector after an exploit was discovered that allowed players to reach higher-level hunts early.

Bungie's community update touches on a number of other subjects too, such as the imminent release of Destiny 2's Deep Stone Crypt Raid on November 21 at 10:00 a.m. PST. With some of Beyond Light's dialogue improvised due to COVID-19 complications, it's fair to say the effort put into this new expansion during trying times warrants giving the developer some slack as it makes post-launch adjustments to some unbalanced mechanics.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
