EA's First 'Impact Report' Provides Insight Into Work Culture, Environmental Footprint

Electronic Arts is a company that has been around for 38 years. While it is a very successful game publisher, the company has seen some low periods, including when EA was named the worst company in America. Recently, the company revealed that it is making strides in attempting to be a better company through various initiatives, in hopes to make the world a better place.

EA has revealed its first-ever "Impact Report." In an effort to be more transparent, the report details how the company is attempting to improve in areas of diversity, work-life balance, privacy and security, and the environment.

CEO Andrew Wilson released a statement regarding the Impact Report, sharing the report, and also explaining why EA chose to share the information. Wilson says that EA's mission is to inspire the world to play. Along with developing, publishing, and releasing games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Apex Legends, Madden NFL 21, FIFA 21, and more, the company also wants to share its commitment and progress in social and environmental areas. The Impact Report does just that.

Wilson highlights the main issues in the report. EA is attempting to build diverse and healthy teams, as diversity and inclusion is important in video games and beyond. EA also is committed to creating healthy communities through positive play, while privacy and security is also something that the company is honing in on.

Enhancing corporate governance is another focus of EA in the Impact Report, as is working towards protecting the environment. Video games have a large carbon footprint according to studies, so this is an area that the company sees as being very important. EA has not had the best reputation in the world of gaming for quite some time. Video games aside, the things that EA's Impact Report tackle are valiant and deserve praise.

There will certainly be skeptics when it comes to a report like this from EA, a company with a poor reputation among many. Sometimes companies will put together initiatives and reports as lip-service, and nothing else. Additionally, because much of the information is internal, some may wonder about its legitimacy, but any organization that works towards some of the goals that EA has put forth should be given credit. While this first Impact Report is intriguing, it will be the follow-up yearly reports that show just how interested and committed EA is in improving in these areas.
