Grand Theft Auto 5 Modders Working to Add Chicago to Game
Two ambitious Grand Theft Auto 5 modders by the names of FV Design and Lozano are embarking on a journey to bring Chicago, the windy city, to the game. The two have just revealed 38 minutes of gameplay showing off the city's many areas much to the delight of fans of the project.
Modding in Grand Theft Auto 5 can do a lot of crazy things. Fans can play the game as Iron Man or mod in crazy weapons, but some of the more impressive mods add entire areas to the game. That's what the goal is here, as soon players will be able to visit Chicago in addition to Los Santos.
From the gameplay, it seems like accuracy and realism are very important to the modders. At the moment the mod is still in development and certain aspects of it look unfinished, but it looks great already. Check out the full 38 minutes of gameplay below.
The video starts out showing the character running around in first person, but eventually switches back to the third person perspective that fans of GTA have come to expect. There isn't a whole lot of life in the city aside from some cars on the streets, but that's likely something that will be added in later. This works to viewers' advantage though, as FV Design uses it as an opportunity to drive around the city showcasing various iconic areas from the real life Chicago.
Naturally, fans that live in or near Chicago, or those that visit the city often, are likely to get the most out of the mod as exploring familiar locales within a game is always fun. That said, even for those players that don't have any connection to the windy city, it acts as an entirely new map to explore in order to shake things up from the monotony of Los Santos.
At the moment, there's no word on when the mod will release, but FV Design and Lozano are putting out updates on the project regularly (every one or two weeks). They also have a whole portfolio of other mods that are worth looking into as well for those players wanting to enhance their GTA 5 experience a little bit. This is yet another instance of modders breathing life into games in ways that fans wouldn't even expect developers to, so those that are excited to drive around and generally wreak havoc on the streets of Chicago should be sure to support FV Design and Lozano.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and later on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
