Monster Hunter Rise's Release was Impacted by COVID-19
The latest action RPG in Capcom’s popular franchise, Monster Hunter Rise, is being developed specifically for the Nintendo Switch so the game will be more accessible for players, whether they be commuting or relaxing in bed.
Monster Hunter Rise, as with many other titles this year, experienced a few unforeseen setbacks that halted game development for nearly a month, according to Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto in an interview with Japanese outlet Nikkei. As a result, the release date was actually delayed to March 26, 2021, which was in place when the game was first announced publicly. This new date seems to still be on track, and preorders for Monster Hunter Rise have begun.
Fiscal earnings for the company will likely see the direct impact of the release delay, as the majority of profits from Monster Hunter Rise will not be seen until the next financial year. In the meantime, Capcom remains optimistic and expects the monster-slaying title to sell as well as previous franchise entries, like the successful Monster Hunter: World, which released in January 2018 and still enjoys an active playerbase.
Announced in September during a Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase, players will enter a new base of operations at Kamura Village in Monster Hunter Rise. The latest main installment is being developed on the Resident Evil engine, which was originally built for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and has subsequently been used for the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, as well as Devil May Cry 5.
Monster Hunter Rise promises to provide new monsters and game mechanics while staying true to staples that players have come to expect. Gamers will still use a variety of tools, weapons, and aspects of the environment to weaken and trap or slay monsters. These vanquished foes will reward monster parts, which can be used to forge increasingly powerful weapons and armor.
Companion hunting partners, felines known as the Palico, have become an established element of the Monster Hunter franchise. A new animal companion known as the Palamute is being introduced in Monster Hunter Rise. Like the Palico, players will be able to customize the Palamute’s skin, hair, facial hair, eyes, and other features using the game’s creation tools. Players will be able to pet their Palamute and teach it tricks.
Because Monster Hunter Rise is a Nintendo Switch game, there will also be Amiibo figures available for purchase to augment the player experience. So far, the three announced Monster Hunter Rise Amiibo include a Palico, Palamute, and Magnamalo, currently exclusive to GameStop in the US, EB Games in Canada, and My Nintendo stores in Europe. The Palico and Palamute Amiibo will cost $19.99 each, while the larger Magnamalo Amiibo will set players back $24.99.
Monster Hunter Rise will release exclusively for Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2021.
