New Devil May Cry 5 Mod Ramps Up The Number of Enemies in Levels

Releasing last year to a lot of acclaim, Devil May Cry 5 has been seen by many as a return to form for the demon-killing action franchise. Opting to resurrect the series' original style and stray away from Ninja Theory's controversial reboot that debuted back in 2011, the canonical fifth entry in the saga saw Dante, Nero, Vergil, and a number of other franchise staples return for yet another outing.

Of course, challenge was a big part of the franchise's roots, and Devil May Cry 5 definitely didn't skimp out on trying to replicate it in the sequel. However, some evidently thought that the game wasn't difficult enough, with a pair of modders switching out the Son of Sparda difficulty for a chaotic custom mode called Legendary Dark Knights.

The modders in question, who go by The Hitchhiker and Dr. Penguin, created the mode with one purpose in mind: ramping up the number of enemies that spawn in any given area. Showing off the creation through both an update video on the mod and several trailers for its release, the modders reveal that the addition makes for a far more chaotic Devil May Cry experience than before. Entering combat arenas now sees overwhelming crowds of once thwartable enemies appear, forcing the player to utilize their arsenal of high-powered moves to manage the hordes.

The Devil May Cry 5 mod is also incredibly customizable, with sliders dictating how much damage enemies will deliver compared to how much they take and the number of enemies that will spawn in an area. Be warned, however, as The Hitchhiker claims that bumping the number of enemies up as high as it can go will be a meaty task for hardware not equipped to handle it. Players will also be able to change the difficulty level too, so if they want to experience the mod but don't want to worry too much about getting annihilated by waves of enemies, the option will be available.

It's definitely a significant change to Devil May Cry 5 that will pose a fun new challenge for committed demon-slayers looking to up their game. The combat encounter remix is out now on Nexus Mods. This isn't the only slice of new Devil May Cry 5 action players can dig into this week though, as the game's Special Edition port for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is available digitally now. It will be releasing physically early next month as well, offering players with next-generation platforms access to faster load times and enhanced visuals.

Devil May Cry 5 is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
