Pokemon Fan Creates Incredible Gigantamax Alcremie Cake for Their Daughter's Birthday
When video game fans have impressive real-world skills in creative fields, the results can be fun to see for everyone in a given fandom. For instance, a father recently built a Breath of the Wild playhouse for his kids based on Link's home in Hateno Village. One mother has pulled off a similar feat for her daughter's birthday by creating a cake based on Pokemon Sword and Shield's Gigantamax Alcremie.
Reddit user PigeonGoddess, who has been a member of the social media site since 2009, shared her Gigantamax Alcremie cake to the r/pokemon subreddit this morning, and as of this writing it has already received over eight thousand upvotes. She says she is just a "bored mom" and a hobby baker in the comments, new to cake baking but utilizing an "art degree that does the heavy lifting." Her daughter is "absolutely obsessed" with Sword and Shield, having played Pokemon with her dad as a bonding activity.
PigeonGoddess said that there were jokes about making the cake as big as Gigantamax Alcremie, larger than a sporting arena, but it "was already too big by half." However, she said sculpted character cakes are her favorite, and one reason she wanted to create such an impressive design was to make up for their inability to hold a big party this year. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has affected many video game developers, but also everyday families as gatherings have been cancelled and job sites like Disneyland have been furloughing their employees.
For those who have not played the latest Pokemon games on Switch, Gigantamaxing is a special variant of the Dynamax phenomenon that offers a limited number of Pokemon a unique form and attack they can utilize each battle. Alcremie is just one of the new Gigantamax Pokemon, turning the customizable whipped cream Pokemon into a multi-tiered cake with the move G-Max Finale that heals allies.
Pokemon Sword and Shield have been in the news as of late following the release of its Crown Tundra DLC expansion in October, which added a whole new Wild Area to explore as well as the Dynamax Adventure feature letting players team up to catch immense Legendaries. The Sagamiko Resort Pleasure Forest amusement park in Japan is also currently hosting special Pokemon-themed light shows until April 2021.
With all of this attention being paid to the long-running JRPG series, it makes sense that PigeonGoddess' impressive recreation would come out to high acclaim on Reddit. She is not the only one making culinary confections based on Nintendo properties, however, as a lifelike Tom Nook cake made the rounds earlier this year on the back of Animal Crossing: New Horizon's release.
Pokemon Sword and Shield are available now on Nintendo Switch.
