Rumor: New GTA Online Heist in the Works | Game Rant
Heists have become a major facet of Grand Theft Auto Online over the years, with Rockstar Games continually looking for ways to up the stakes. Through official events, in-game announcements, and new scenery found in the game's open world, it appears that Rockstar is preparing to launch a brand-new heist for players to take part in, and it may be coming as soon as next week.
Earlier today, Rockstar announced "The Heist Challenge" for all GTA Online players. The developer has issued a community-wide goal to collectively steal $1 billion via any Heist Finale between November 12 and November 18, which it says is meant to "get ready for the upcoming release of the next generation in Heist gameplay." To facilitate player involvement, there is a 75 percent waiver on Casino Heist Startup Fees during the challenge period.
Anyone who participates in the challenge will receive a "special badge of honor," according to Rockstar's newswire post, and if the goal is met every Grand Theft Auto Online player will have free limited-time access to a special vehicle in December. Though the developer does not hint at any details regarding a new heist directly, players have received an in-game message about construction work at the Diamond Casino, where props and equipment can be found as of this writing.
All things considered, Rockstar's promise that players are coming up on the "next generation in Heist gameplay" may not be in reference to a new Heist, especially given the wording is evocative of the current Sony and Microsoft console transition. However, GTA Online's standalone PS5 and Xbox Series X release isn't planned until late 2021, and the in-game construction project does lend credence to the idea that new content is on its way.
Whether or not this new content exists and will be made available following the end of the Heist Challenge on November 18 is yet to be seen. However, players who jump on this week will also be able to get a $1 million bonus, earn double rewards in Casino and Resurrection missions, and receive a free t-shirt based on GTA's recurring Degenatron arcade game, according to Rockstar.
The fact that Grand Theft Auto 5 has prominently appeared on now three separate console generations, with its online component still receiving updates, is a testament to the game's popularity. As a result of this and other major titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, the developer has continued to grow, with Rockstar recently acquiring Crackdown dev Ruffian Games.
Grand Theft Auto Online is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
