Skyrim Mod Adds Playable Overwatch Characters | Game Rant
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is truly up there in years, having been released nine years ago and on two different console generations thus far. But the game has extended its lifespan through the vast and immense power of modding. While most mods are designed to modernize various parts of gameplay — including one that adds the Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice combat system — there are those that add some truly bizarre cultural crossovers.
Many players are familiar with amusing Skyrim mods such as the "Macho Man" Randy Savage dragons or the Thomas the Tank Engine dragons, but now with the power of mods, players can add the stylized characters of Overwatch to the gritty, realistic world of Skyrim.
A meme posted on Twitter by Bad Pachimari depicts Reaper and McCree swapping out the guns for swords and bows against draugr and wolves. While the DPS Heroes seem to adapt pretty quickly, special mention must be given to Reinhardt, who merely swaps his Rocket Hammer for a battleaxe. The video — framed as Overwatch 2 footage — even has a scene where Reaper backstabs Reinhardt, who looks awfully small.
On the scale of playable Sylvanas from World of Warcraft to Fall Guys followers, seeing McCree dungeon crawling would rank this mod towards the latter end of the scale for just how bizarre it is. With the modding scene being so wide and open, an Overwatch mod was inevitable, especially considering the media blending of modern internet culture.
For now, players can just be grateful that this is a fairly harmless and humorous mod (though Blizzard's lawyers may have something to say about that). While not every mod is a large-scale effort on the level of the Oblivion and Morrowind remakes, even small things, like modified armor or weapons do add a little something for players to help keep the aging game fresh. However, some modders have created some truly bizarre alterations, including a mod that replaces all of the dialogue in Skyrim with lisping and UwU equivalents.
While Overwatch 2 is still a ways off, Blizzard will come through with the details at BlizzConline. Happening on February 19-20, 2021, the convention will take place online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic where the latest info regarding Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV is expected to be announced. Despite most people going to be at home, the usual events of cosplaying, Murloc marching, and art creation have been scheduled.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
