Blizzard Nerfs World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Dungeons

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has been out for only a month, but the newest expansion has successfully revitalized World of Warcraft's player base. Since heroes first stepped into the afterlife on November 23rd, many other veterans and newcomers have returned to choose their covenants and restore order to each realm of death. Upon reaching max level, however, some endgame activities were more difficult than intended for players, forcing Blizzard to finally make some changes.

While dungeons are always a challenge at the start of an expansion, specific ones have proved extremely problematic when combined with added difficulty from the Mythic+ system. With specific affixes like Bolstering or Tyrannical, some trash mobs or bosses overwhelmed groups that didn't bring certain classes. Thankfully, Blizzard has taken note, because in the wake of recent Torghast changes it also nerfed several frustrating dungeons.

In Plaguefall, Globgrog's health has been reduced by 10-percent on all difficulties while the Slimy Smorgasbord add has 15-percent reduced health on Mythic. Mordretha's Mythic-only phase in Theater of Pain now deals 50-percent less DoT damage, while her Dark Devastation beam and Ghostly Charge take twice as long to cast. Finally, Executor Tarvold's Castigate AoE now ticks for damage slightly slower than before in Sanguine Depths. All these boss changes should allow players to recover rather than wipe if a single mistake happens.

Furthermore, specific mobs were also nerfed in some dungeons. The Plaguefall trash before Globgrog have received damage nerfs and players can now interrupt ability casts. More importantly, the mechanical enemies in Spires of Ascension have up to 30-percent reduced health while other adds like the Etherdiver and Forsworn Helion don't use AoE abilities anymore. This should allow groups to spend much less time on unskippable trash groups and save cooldowns for bosses.

Many players should be happy with the changes, especially those trying to push higher Mythic keystones. However, many bosses remain overtuned, like Margrave Stradama in Plaguefall, who can one-shot everyone on higher difficulties without disease cleanses or defensive cooldowns. Furthermore, Executor Tarvold remains an unforgiving fight with orbs to dodge and adds that pulse AoE damage, so it wouldn't be surprising if more nerfs will eventually be patched in.

In the end, more changes should be coming soon, but the latest hotfix should give more breathing room in some previously avoided dungeons. If players are still having trouble gearing their World of Warcraft characters for higher Mythic+ dungeons, they can always opt to do Castle Nathria or PvP which will also add rewards to their weekly Great Vault.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is available now on PC.
