Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Player Breaks Out Of Map To Find Strange Images

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has built a reputation for being filled with secrets, glitches, and Easter eggs. The developers like to hide things within plain sight, which makes players only work harder to find them. When this player made it outside the bounds of a Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign mission, what they found was confusing, at best.

Glitching outside of a game map usually results in a never-ending fall, strange planer existence, or the underside of a map. In Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it tends to be the underside of the level, but this player found something  stranger hidden under the mission "Break on Through."

When Reddit user American_Boi117 made it under the map in "Break on Through," they found a strange scenery surrounding them. On Reddit, they shared four screenshots showings a grassy field in the middle of an unknown location. In one section there is a sign with a date, time, and several other notations written on it. When turning around, the player can clearly see far out into a field, grass, and some scattered Gatorade bottles and trash from the center point. It is unconfirmed exactly what this is, but the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War community has some ideas that seem plausible.

When the player searched for any reference to these, they hit an immediate dead-end. This means that they may be the first Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War player to find this strange location and reveal it to the game's community. However, other players claim to have found this before, so it is unknown if they are the first to share this strange imagery and information.

One fan in the comments suggested that this is a test image used by the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War developers to give the game realistic shading. By using a real image of scenery, they can adjust the in-game engine's graphics to try and match the sun location, shadow, and general atmosphere to the image.

Another player believes these images could be used for Reflection Mapping or rather the process of adjusting the lighting for the purpose of reflections within the game. While most Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War development practices are kept secret, the community is excited that this may their first look into how their favorite games are being created.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
