Elder Scrolls Fan Figures Out What Skyrim's Dwemer Scrap Was Used For
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is known for its numerous hidden and unmarked locations to explore, many of which contain the remnants of the Dwemer: an ancient civilization that left behind architecture and constructs. Dwemer Scrap, pieces of a mysterious and very heavy ore, are one such remnant, and a Redditor named phantom-scribbler thinks they know how the scrap was used.
Skyrim has been out since 2011 and continues to thrive from a healthy playerbase on multiple platforms. The game's excellence as an open-world RPG and deep lore continue to inspire players to search for answers to the many mysteries of Tamriel. Dwemer Scrap has always been a substance of limited use in Skyrim, but a helpful infographic created by phantom-scribbler helps put the pieces together regarding its purpose.
In the graphic, three different Dwemer constructs are labeled with arrows detailing the placement of the Dwemer Scrap items that can be found while exploring the world. Ten pieces are shown in total, ranging from the lighter Large Dwemer Plate Metal to the heavy Solid Dwemer Metal which adds 25 points to encumbrance.
No doubt enthusiasts will recognize the Dwarven Centurion, a guardian of Dwemer Ruins with high resistance that poses a significant threat to lower-level Skyrim players unprepared for the fight. Seeing exactly how Dwemer Scrap pieces fit into constructs clears up some confusion with the material, though there are still unclear aspects. For players encountering Dwemer Scrap for the first time, "Bent Dwemer Scrap Metal" can easily be confused with "Dwemer Scrap Metal," but the latter is not useful for smelting into Dwarven metal ingots.
The Dwemer civilization is among the most mysterious aspects of Skyrim's history, as is the knowledge they could have shared an allegiance with the politically neutral Giants. The Dwemer are long thought to have been extinct, though some Skyrim residents believe members of the race might still be alive. For example, a man in Morthal named Falion who has traveled across planes claims to have met Dwemer in his lifetime.
This discovery likely isn't the last one that will be made concerning the Dwemer, especially considering The Elder Scrolls 6 will be coming out eventually. For now, fans of the Elder Scrolls series have an abundance of content to enjoy, and it probably won't be long before new discoveries are made in the expansive fantasy franchise.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now on PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
