First Super Smash Bros Ultimate Tournament of 2021 Revealed
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is ringing in the new year with a special tournament. A star-themed tournament will take place on January 1, 2021, making it the first tournament for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the year.
In what was one of the best selling games of 2020, even after releasing in 2018, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate continues to be supported with new characters, maps, and more via DLC, and also tournaments and in-game events. This star-themed tournament will run for three days and should see tons of only star items, like the Super Star from Mario, the Star Rod from the Kirby games, the Warp Star, and more.
These tournaments, of course, are not new for Nintendo's mashup fighter, as a villain-only Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament took place as recently as Christmas day. These battles are a good way to keep the playerbase engaged in entertaining fights online. Nintendo's online infrastructure does not always get credit for being well put together, but there is fun to be had in some of these setups.
Of course, the biggest recent addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the addition of Sephiroth, the main antagonist of Final Fantasy VII and a rather surprising addition to the game. Cloud, the protagonist of the RPG, was added to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, but many thought it was a long shot to add Sephiroth. But the one-winged angel has arrived in deadly glory, and Nintendo fans are quite happy about it. Playing as Sephiroth in this star-themed tournament should be fun, giving players a way to tide themselves by until the continuation of the Final Fantasy 7 remakes.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is exclusively available now for the Nintendo Switch.
