Fortnite Galactus Event Recap and Video | Game Rant
Fortnite ended its Nexus War event today with a showdown against Galactus. The event saw players team up with Iron Man, Thor, and Wolverine to take down the infamous Fantastic Four villain.
Epic Games informed players of the upcoming Fortnite event last month, but details besides the timing of the event were largely under wraps. Thanks to YouTuber PlaystationGrenade, there is a concise video detailing everything that happens within the event.
To start, players find themselves on a platform, which appears to be a SHIELD Helicarrier, above the island, where they can see the head of Galactus on the horizon with a counter counting down to the start of the event. As the timer ends, Galactus rises up from the horizon and begins walking towards the center of the island. He then clenches his fists and declares his hunger before destroying the Helicarrier.
Players are then greeted by Iron Man, who provides them with a jetpack to prevent them from falling any further. Despite being told by Iron Man that Galactus must be stopped, players are unable to do much but watch Galactus absorb energy. That is until they are teleported inside a battle bus that Iron Man has rigged as a bomb. Iron Man has created multiple battle buses for all players to use against Galactus.
Galactus then sends out drones to attack the buses, which essentially turns into a sort of Star Fox-lite, as players must fly towards Galactus, shooting down the drones. Eventually, Galactus grows wise to the player and tries to destroy the bus. Thor then comes to the rescue and diverts the bus into Galactus' arm.
The player then continues to shoot drones down as they make their way through Galactus' armor. When they're nearing the end, Wolverine hops aboard the front of the bus to help take down drones. All the battle buses then fly into Galactus and explode, fulfilling Iron Man's plan to send Galactus out of the world of Fortnite. The screen then goes black before showing a man waking up to a blaring alarm in an office and flashing up a "To Be Continued..." sign.
The event was certainly cinematic and interactive. However, with all the Marvel characters that Fortnite has introduced as of now, only spotlighting three of them and giving 90% of the screen time to Iron Man is a little disappointing, but it is certainly understandable given Iron Man's overall popularity. Storm or Mystique lending a hand certainly would have been a pleasant surprise, but maybe Epic intended this to be an Avengers only affair.
To be sure though, the event was significantly more interactive than say, Destiny 2's recent live event to kick off Beyond Light, which just showed a brief non-interactive cutscene. Regardless, the next season of Fortnite is about to begin.
Fortnite is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
