Genshin Impact: How to Get Festering Dragon Marrow | Game Rant
Genshin Impact players are no doubt working through the new Albedo event added to the game with the 1.2 update by now, and are just starting to get acquainted with the new weapon called Festering Desire. This ancient, magical sword is an important part of the story and may hold many secrets, but it also works great as an actual weapon.
Like other weapons, it's best if players can refine it to the maximum level. Under normal circumstances, refinement requires a duplicate of the weapon, usually pulled from the game's gacha wish system, but that isn't the case here. Instead, Genshin Impact players will need to collect a new item called Festering Dragon Marrow.
From a lore standpoint, the Festering Desire is a unique weapon, so it makes sense that players can't get duplicates of it. Furthermore, since the sword itself is empowered with the corrupting energy from the dragon slain by Stormterror and Barbatos known as Durin, it also tracks that the sword can only be refined with Durin's purified venom.
In order to get Festering Dragon Marrow, players will need to progress through the Chalk Prince and the Dragon event quests. There are four total pieces of Festering Dragon Marrow that players can obtain, and they all come from completing various event quests. The first act of the event doesn't reward any of these items. This means collecting a hefty amount of Rime-worn Crystals and Fragments and upgrading the sword a bit aren't technically necessary to reach full refinement. Players wanting to use this weapon should do those things anyway, though.
To get the other Festering Dragon Marrows, players will need to purchase them from the event shop. Each one will require a different type of event currency, with the first costing 600 Glimmering Essence, the second running for 600 Warm Essence, and the final two pieces being sold for 400 Miraculous Essence each. Glimmering Essence can be earned by completing the Testing Grounds events during the second act, Warm Essence is obtained from the Draconic Pilgrimage events in Act 3, and Miraculous Essence will become available when Act 4 opens up in a few days.
Of course, refining the Festering Desire will still cost a lot of Mora, so players should be prepared to spend some money on the endeavor. In terms of ascension, it also works similarly to other weapons, but it should be said that its ascension materials can be purchased from the Glimmering Essence event shop as well.
Genshin Impact is available now on Mobile, PC, and PS4, and later on Switch.
