Netflix's The Witcher Reportedly Casts Wild Hunt Voice Actor

The first season of Netflix's The Witcher surprised audiences with its engrossing take on the stories and characters already known to video game and book fans alike. Now, with fans eagerly awaiting season 2, it seems there are a few more surprises in store, particularly for fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Actor Alastair Parker, who played the dwarf Cleaver in Wild Hunt, has reportedly joined the cast for season 2 of The Witcher. While no word has come out about the exact part he's set to play, many speculate that he will take on the role of Sigismund Dijkstra, the cunning and imposing Redanian spy. This theory is more than just baseless conjecture, however. Aside from Parker's physical appearance and gruff voice that both match fairly well with Dijkstra's, auditions for the character had previously been all but confirmed when actor Graham McTavish posted a video of his audition for a character codenamed "David."

Video game fans may not know Parker's name, but chances are they've heard his voice. Aside from playing Cleaver, he's also well known for his role as Blackwall in Dragon Age: Inquisition. While his resume features plenty of games, The Witcher wouldn't be his first on-screen role, as he was recently seen in a 2015 episode of Doctor Who as well. With such a distinctive voice, even if he doesn't end up playing Dijkstra, Parker's part on the show will still most certainly end up being memorable.

Parker isn't the only new face to allegedly join the cast. Similar rumors claim that English actor Richard Cunningham will also take part in season 2, though his part remains unknown for the time being. Cunningham is known for playing General Ramda in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Ryall in Dancing on the Edge. Dublin-born actress Michele Moran is also joining the possibly-cast party. She's known for episodic roles in shows such as Into the Badlands and Flack, so perhaps The Witcher will see her in another one-off part.

The Witcher is a character-driven story, so it's interesting to speculate on who will take on iconic roles as the series goes on. It's worth noting that the show itself is based on the books rather than the games, and while the games are also based on the books, sharing that same connection doesn't necessarily mean the two mediums will intersect in their takes on certain characters and events. That's probably a good thing, since there's not much point in telling the same story twice without adding at least something fresh.

With the Netflix show still currently filming its second season, it's now just down to the waiting game. Season 1 left fans with high expectations, and with casting news like this, it looks as though they may not be unfounded.

Season 2 of The Witcher is set to release on Netflix in 2021.
