Star Wars Ahsoka Series Starring Rosario Dawson Coming to Disney Plus
Disney really pulled out all the stops and even added a few boost pads during its 2020 Investor Day. Along with a staggering number of new Marvel projects and a sprinkling of Pixar announcements, the media colossus unleashed a deluge of Star Wars news, including an upcoming Disney+ series focused on former Jedi and current Grogu friend, Ahsoka Tano.
In a move that has likely been in the works for some time, Disney revealed Ahsoka as part of its seemingly unending stream of shows and films set to release in the next few years. The character of Ahsoka Tano herself, who first appeared in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars CG-animated series, made waves when she made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian on Disney+, being portrayed by Rosario Dawson. Fan reception appeared overwhelmingly positive, so it's little surprise to see Disney running with it like this.
While information on the new series is scarce, Disney has confirmed it will take place within the timeline of The Mandalorian, which suggests it may use her guest appearance on the show as its own jumping off point. Of course, it's also clear that she had already been pretty busy by the time Din Djarin encountered her on Corvus, so a little more backstory filling in her time from the end of The Clone Wars wouldn't be unwelcome.
Ahsoka Tano began her journey as an apprentice to Anakin Skywalker, who was still relatively young at the time. They were assigned together as a learning experience for both sides of the master/padawan relationship, which helped develop a satisfying camaraderie between the two. Throughout the events of The Clone Wars, she grew and developed into a truly adept Jedi Knight, only to end up leaving the Jedi Order when a set of false accusations left her disillusioned. From that point, she made her own way in the galaxy, still continuing her training in the ways of the Jedi, but still disassociating herself with the actual Order.
Much of her personal adventure has remained a mystery, periodically glimpsed in shows like Star Wars Rebels and The Mandalorian, so the upcoming Ahsoka series will likely clear a great deal of that up. In terms of the timeline, she was last seen in her appearance on The Mandalorian, still searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn (and her friend Ezra Bridger) after the events of Star Wars Rebels. So there's already plenty of material to work with for a series.
Ahsoka Tano has been a fan favorite character almost since her introduction, so her own series feels like it was inevitable. Whatever happens, Ahsoka is sure to be a popular new addition to the Star Wars series when it debuts on Disney+.
