Treyarch Discusses Gentleman's Agreement And Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War CDL

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be taking center stage for the upcoming Call of Duty League season in 2021, and there will be some changes. The Call of Duty League will have new rules requiring player contestants to use a PC and controller for the esports tournament. Alongside this development, Treyarch is going a step further for pro players' involvement in the tournament.

To prepare for the next season, Treyarch and Activision have been reaching out to pro Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players to to develop Gentlemen's Agreements and help establish rules for the league. Usually, these rules would include restrictions on specific weapons, items, attachments, and more that can be used in competitive play. The pro players then use the Gentlemen's Agreements to help balance out competitive event.

Even though the Call of Duty League already announced competitive settings for the tournament, players can still implement the Gentlemen's Agreements too. Recently, Treyarch lead game designer Tony Flame spoke on the matter in a Reddit post directly addressing the  Gentlemen's Agreements for the Call of Duty League 2021 season.

Flame explained that Treyarch is working with the pro players to help finalize changes to the Call of Duty League's ruleset for next year. Flame said that Treyarch and the pro players are experimenting with the different types of competitive rulesets to see what would best suit the competition for players and a live audience. He said players should expect to see more new playtesting, rulesets, experimentation, and updates before the Call of Duty League 2021 season arrives.

Flame also said one of the difficulties in making the new rulesets is the element of pro players' streaming, and how some viewers may react to the changes without all the context. However, Flame said Treyarch is drawing on the pro players' experience to help with the matter, and it is looking for new solutions to "solidify the officially sanctioned content" for the Call of Duty League esports teams. He added that more details will be revealed next year.

Flame concluded the post reinforcing the cooperation between Treyarch and other pro players to help refine the rules and provide a better viewing experience for the Call of Duty League. He shares his gratitude to the players for helping with the process, and wishes everyone happy holidays. Currently, there's no start date for the Call of Duty League, but there will be more updates on the tournament in 2021.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
