World of Warcraft: Shadowlands - Castle Nathria Shriekwing Guide
For nearly 2 weeks, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands players have explored many new zones and helped out each of the four World of Warcraft covenants that rule the afterlife. But on December 8th, Castle Nathria will finally open up, allowing heroes to venture into the expansion's first raid and bring justice to several villains responsible for the Shadowlands' current predicament. MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD.
Within the halls of Castle Nathria, players will battle against ten terrifying bosses as they explore the Transylvania-inspired citadel. But before the raid group can face Sire Denathrius and his most trusted followers, they must defeat the initial obstacle barring further entry. In a vampire-filled fortress, perhaps there's no first boss more appropriate than a giant bat, Shriekwing.
Phase 1
- Exsanguinating Bite: Shriekwing bites her current target dealing physical damage and applying 10 stacks of Exsanguinated.
- Exsanguinated: Increase physical damage, reduce healing, and deals damage, but a stack falls off every second.
- Earsplitting Shriek: Shriekwing deals damage to all players within line of sight (LoS) while putting a DoT and spawning Sanguine Ichor pools underneath everyone.
- Echolocation: Shriekwing marks players and jumps on them after several seconds, dealing AoE damage and creating a Sanguine Ichor pool.
- Blind Swipe: Shriekwing targets a random World of Warcraft player and deals physical damage in a frontal cone.
- Wave of Blood: Shriekwing deals shadow damage and puts a DoT on the entire raid.
- Echoing Shriek (Heroic only): Shriekwing throws out orbs that deal damage to a player on contact, horrify them, and cause her to jump to that location after several seconds while leaving a Sanguine Ichor pool.
Phase 2
- Blood Shroud: Shriekwing becomes untargetable and starts moving around once her secondary World of Warcraft bar is full. Any players that go near Shriekwing during Phase 2 will instantly be killed.
- Echoing Sonar: Shriekwing throws out orbs that deal damage to a player on contact, horrify them, and cause her to jump to that location after several seconds while leaving a Sanguine Ichor pool.
- Earsplitting Shriek: Same as Phase 1.
Have the tank classes taunt after each Exsanguinating Bite or at least until the Exsanguinating stacks fall off. Keep Shriekwing near one of the four pillars so the raid group can easily hide from the Earsplitting Shriek cast and move out of leftover pools. Players targeted by Echolocation should immediately run to the corners to drop their pools away from the fight, which is especially important on Heroic to avoid Echoing Shriek projectiles. Everyone should dodge the Blind Swipe cast, but being hit only deals moderate damage, so it doesn't take priority over pools or bad positioning. Use spare defensive cooldowns or self-healing during Wave of Blood to help out healers.
During Phase 2, stay as far away from the corner Shriekwing is currently patrolling. Divide the raid into several groups at each pillar to minimize the areas filled by pools after Earsplitting Shriek. Dodge Echoing Sonar or at the very least keep to the outer area to avoid adding more things that healer classes need to top up afterwards. Eventually, all pools disappear and the boss goes back to Phase 1, repeating this cycle until it is defeated.
