10 Of The Most Wholesome Things You Can Do In The Witcher 3
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is a monster-hunting epic, set on a continent filled with violence, horror, and war. Life is hard for everyone as they're subjected to the brutalities of life amongst monsters and powerful men.
Like in the books, despite the chaos and pain, Geralt manages to find a few moments of peace, usually comprised of small, happy moments. These wholesome moments involve his closest friends and family, and give the witcher a much needed break from his average day. Some of these moments are connected to the main story, some are DLC, and others are optional. All are wholesome and warm.
10 Fumigate Rats with Triss
Novigrad is a bit of a shock to the system after trekking through the wilds for the first portion of The Witcher. Geralt is welcomed into the city with a witch burning. Tensions are high, everyone is paranoid and on their guard.
Geralt meets up with Triss, who has gone from being the advisor to the king of Temeria, to taking odd jobs. One of these jobs is to fumigate rats from a warehouse. While the encounter ends in a trap, Geralt spends some time with Triss, and gets a quiet opportunity to talk to her while they watch the rats run away.
9 Undo Geralt's Wish
Geralt reunites with Yennefer on Skellige, where she asks him for help with finding a djinn. She uses the djinn to break the wish Geralt had made years ago which had bound them together.
The journey takes them across the sea and to a wrecked ship. Geralt and Yennefer manage to capture the djinn, who undoes the wish which had bound Geralt and Yennefer together. The result leaves the two at a crossroads: continue their romance, or claim to feel different. Either way, it's an important moment for the two, and gives them an opportunity to have a quiet moment together.
8 Be Rescued By a Friend
If you make certain decisions in Blood and Wine, Geralt ends up in prison, most likely to be executed. He spends a month in the prison before he is inexplicably released.
Geralt hadn't contacted anyone to let him know he was in prison, so this in itself is surprising. His rescuer is revealed to be his friend Dandelion, who traveled all the way to Toussaint to bail Geralt out of prison. It's a touching and surprising moment to see Dandelion go so far to help out his friend.
7 Help Ciri Avenge Vesemir
Vesemir and Ciri have a familial relationship that goes beyond teacher and student. Vesemir helped to train Ciri while she lived at Kaer Morhen.
We see a glimpse of their relationship during the prologue of The Witcher 3. Vesemir falls asleep during a lesson, while Ciri escapes to go train. Her respect for the old witcher shows itself when she proves she did finish the task he had set. Their affection for each other makes it all the more tragic when Vesemir is killed.
6 Going to a Wedding With Shani
Hearts of Stone gives Geralt the opportunity to reconnect with an old friend, Shani. Shani invites Geralt to a friend's wedding. The reception sequence proves to be hilarious, not least because Geralt spends the entire time possessed by a charismatic, flirty, and fun-loving spirit.
The reception provides for a wide range of activities, which include diving for ladies' slippers and chasing pigs. Spending time with Shani in such a relaxed setting, while juggling between the spirit and Geralt, provides a fun distraction from the horrors of life on the Continent. The night of revelry is a chance to reconnect with old friends in the context of a celebration (including a very cringe speech given by Not-Geralt).
5 Reunite with Ciri
After dozens of hours of searching, Geralt and Ciri finally find each other. Their reunion has all the payoff expected from such an important moment, and it truly feels like a moment of relief and catharsis for the two.
Much of the emotional investment in The Witcher for players lies in the found family of Geralt and Ciri. Two people who are bound by destiny and find themselves lost, who finally find each other. A flashback that plays when the two finally embrace is of their first meeting in the forest, and the feelings are no different here. Time may have passed, but their devotion to each other hasn't changed. All with no words.
4 Wreck Avallac'h's Lab with Ciri
Avallac'h is something of a mystery to all who know him, including Geralt and Ciri. Though Ciri trusts him as a friend, Geralt's trust doesn't extend so far. The mystery deepens when Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer find Avallac'h's lab.
The lab includes a tapestry of Ciri's bloodline, drawings of her face, and other creepy memorabilia. It becomes clear that Avallac'h is obsessed with Ciri, and she finds the contents of the lab deeply upsetting. In a show of support, Geralt starts to "subtly" break glass jars and equipment. Laughing, the two destroy the lab and its contents, in a moment where Geralt shows his love for his daughter.
3 Snowball Fight with Ciri
The events of The Wild Hunt are stressful and exhausting. Geralt and Ciri find themselves with a modicum of downtime at Kaer Morhen just after a snowfall. What else is there to do but have a snowball fight?
What results is a touching sequence where the two have an epic superpowered fight in the snow. It is possible for Geralt to win, but seeing the look on Ciri's face when she claims victory is a reward in itself. Playing in the snow with Ciri is an island of peace in a stressful world, and is one of the most wholesome moments in The Witcher 3.
2 Saying Goodbye to Ciri
The so-called "good" ending means Ciri leaves Geralt to become Empress of Nilfgaard. It's good because it means she'll be able to enact real change in her new position, but it also means saying goodbye to Geralt.
The father and daughter spend their last moments together fighting a monster and fishing. Ciri is aware that their time together is drawing to a close, and reminisces on her time at Kaer Morhen with Geralt. Geralt gives her a piggy back ride through the snowy woods and, for a time, it feels as though this perfect moment will never end.
1 Commission Ciri a Witcher's Sword
There are several endings to The Witcher 3, all of varying happiness levels. One of the happier endings is Ciri surviving and becoming a witcher alongside Geralt.
The sequence begins by informing Emperor Emhyr that Ciri is dead. Geralt then goes on to receive a beautiful silver witcher's sword he had commissioned. It's easy to assume the sword is for Geralt, until he travels to a tavern, where he meets a cloaked young woman who is revealed to be Ciri. Geralt gifts her the sword, much to her surprise and joy. Rather than leaving Geralt, the two of them plan their next contract and their lives as monster hunters.
