Apex Legends' Mirage is Related to Two Titanfall 2 Characters
Apex Legends has more than a few ties to developer Respawn Entertainment’s other popular series, Titanfall. Fans have just made new connections between the character Mirage and Titanfall veterans based on a new recording discovered aboard the Mirage Voyage, which is included in the return of King’s Canyon.
Perceptive players may remember hearing Mirage ask if anyone has seen his cellphone while he was supposed to be announcing December’s Winter Express Limited-Time Mode. It turns out he left it on his own ship, the Mirage Voyage, which players can now find when they drop on King’s Canyon in Apex Legends. Accessing the phone during a match will play a voicemail from Mirage’s mom, Evelyn Witt.
Evelyn Witt begins by impersonating Titanfall 2 antagonist and leaked legend Kubin Blisk to mess with her son Elliot, whom everyone else knows as Mirage. Evelyn suffers from some form of dementia or memory loss it seems, so she forgets who she is talking to in the middle of the voicemail. She begins to ramble about how she misses her sons, and then mentions how she also misses her brother, Droz. She then adds the name Davis, and says the two together made her laugh.
Those familiar with the lore of Titanfall 2 may recognize the names Droz and Davis as two cheery members of the 6-4, a part of the Frontier Militia. The two assist player-protagonist Jack Cooper in boarding the IMS Malta on his way to stop the IMC from unleashing a superweapon on the Militia home planet Harmony.
The two can be seen directing the player in Titanfall 2’s co-op Frontier Defense mode as well, where the player defends Harvesters, similar to the one at the center of World’s Edge in Apex, from IMC attack. Though the two banter like they are related and call each other brother, their differing accents suggest they are only “brothers-in-arms” and not blood related. For now it is only officially confirmed that Droz is Elliot’s uncle.
Later in the voicemail, Evelyn mentions that her son is celebrating her second anniversary of being in the Apex Games and that “there’s a girl too, he started to talk about.” The “girl” in question is likely Apex Legends' Wraith, as the comics and trailers suggest there is a budding relationship between them, but it could also be Mirage is talking about his business partner Rampart, as she now runs her gun sales out of Mirage’s bar.
Mirage’s anniversary will likely line up with the second anniversary of Apex Legends, which will take place on February 4. It has been leaked that a special anniversary event will be happening in Apex Legends that will include new recolors of fan-favorite skins from the past two years. This will likely also coincide with the start of Season 8.
Apex Legends is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with Switch and mobile versions in development.
