Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Taking Root Quest Guide | Game Rant

As many players may already expect from the title, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has ties into Norse Mythology. Assassin's Creed Valhalla players will not only get to travel around ninth century England, but they will also be allowed to traverse its version of Asgard. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has an entire story arc that takes place in Asgard, with various quests and side objectives to complete.

While in Asgard, Valhalla players will assume the role of Havi. The Taking Root quest is one of two missions during the "Forging a Bond" quest given by Ivaldi. During the Forging a Bond quest, Ivaldi gives Havi a couple of riddles to solve, one of the riddles will help players solve the Taking Root quest. The riddle tied to the Taking Root quest reads: “Cradles in rock, at Asgard’s highest height, a seed sleeps in Ymir’s cold grip. Warm it awake, bring it to water, for old bone to sprout with new life.”

Valhalla players are looking for a seed at Asgard’s highest height. The highest peak in Asgard is also a synchronization point, located on the southern Island above Utangard Chasm. Players who have not activated this synchronization point should do so while they are there. From the synchronization point, players will notice a haystack below them, and should take a leap of faith into it as the seed from the riddle is next to the haystack.

As per the riddle, Valhalla players will need to warm the seed awake. Make sure that the seed is on top of the hay, and then light the hay on fire using the torch. Once the fire touches the seed, players will need to bring it to water, and conveniently there is a pond just over the cliff. Throw the seed into the waters below and dive into the pond after the seed. The seed will have sprouted with new life, leaving a root at the mouth of the pond for players to grab.

Once players have obtained the root, the Taking Root quest will be completed. Taking Root is only one half of the Forging a Bond quest. The other part of the Forging a Bond quest, A Feline's Footfall, must also be completed to progress Forging a Bond. Once both Taking Root and A Felines Footfall quests are completed, Havi will need to return the newly sprouted root to Ivaldi to find out why Ivaldi needed it.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
