Cult Classic Elasto Mania is Getting Remastered for Consoles
Starting in 1997, many kids in computer class spent time avoiding schoolwork and playing the Elasto Mania games. Elasto Mania, now a cult classic, is having a resurgence. The Elasto Mania Team is announcing today that it will be remastering and rereleasing Elasto Mania in 2021. The physics-based 2D motorbike puzzle game won't just be coming to PC, though. It'll also be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and last-generation consoles.
For those unfamiliar, the Elasto Mania franchise began in 1997 with the release of the game Action SuperCross. The PC game tasked players with controlling a physics-enabled motorbike and having its driver overcome basic 2D obstacles, collect apples, and then deliver them to the flower. The only problem being that if the biker hit their head on the ground, the level would be reset. The popularity of the game resulted in the follow-up title Elasto Mania in 2000, followed by a sequel over a decade later in 2014.
The success of Elasto Mania 2 on mobile in 2014 led to a PC release in 2017. That, in turn, led to Elasto Mania being rereleased on PC in 2020. A remastered version of Elasto Mania in 2021 that will be released on both PC and consoles is the sensible trajectory for the series. But, again, who could have predicted this happening all the way back in 1997?
All that Elasto Mania Team was willing to share about its plans is that the remastered version of the game will feature "never-before-seen higher fidelity assets" as well as "som more goodies." The graphics in Elasto Mania have never mattered, but it'll be fun to see what's planned for the game, regardless.
Elasto Mania Remastered releases in 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
