Here's Why SNES Games Are Trending on Twitter | Game Rant
Twitter users may have noticed a handful of games trending on Sunday, with terms including "Aladdin," "Link to the Past," and "Super Mario RPG" drawing thousands of mentions from the same point of origination. It's not a coincidence they're all SNES games, as a now-viral tweet asked video game fans to pick three games from a list of classic SNES titles.
GifZelda was the Twitter account that first asked the question: "You can only choose 3. What do you choose?" Alongside the question, a linked image showed 25 different SNES games laid out in a grid. The list includes most of the SNES' most popular games, including first-party titles like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario World, and Super Mario Kart. JRPGs like Chrono Trigger, EarthBound, as well as Final Fantasy 2 and 3 (better known as Final Fantasy 4 and 6), are there, too.
The most popular game, according to ongoing Twitter trends, is Super Mario World, as even 30 years later Nintendo's platformer is still recalled fondly. Next up is Square's Chrono Trigger, followed by Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, Link to the Past, Turtles in Time, and Mega Man X. Even Aladdin has been trending, though that's partially due to movie fans seeing the trend and talking about Disney's animated film.
Ten total games of the 25 includes in the image jumped into the top 50 trending Twitter terms of the day, though that number has shifted hour to hour. It just goes to show that not only is the Super Nintendo system still thought of fondly, but also that its fans will likely never be able to agree on what the best SNES games are.
