Limited Run Games Celebrates Sales Milestone | Game Rant
Limited Run Games, a publisher based out of Raleigh, North Carolina known for small-batch printings of popular indie games, has hit a new sales milestone. Limited Run Games not only does special physical releases for modern digital games like Octodad, Guacamelee!, and Transistor, but the group also handles re-releases of classic games like Zero Wing for the Sega Genesis.
Josh Fairhurst, the creator of Limited Run Games, recently took to Twitter to announce that the publisher has sold over 2,500,000 physical games since it began by publishing strategy game Breach & Clear in 2015. Fairhurst was sure to thank all of Limited Run Games' fans for their support, and mentioned that he never thought the company would be so successful.
Limited Run’s success is incredible considering its trajectory from physical editions for indie games like Thomas Was Alone and Shadow Complex Remastered, to partnering with Disney to bring back old LucasArts gems like The Secret of Monkey Island Anthology and multiple Star Wars games including Dark Forces, Bounty Hunter, and TIE Fighter. To date, Limited Run Games has published over 300 different retro and indie games with special edition physical releases.
Looking forward, the publisher will be releasing a Collector’s Edition for Harvest Moon: One World on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch, which received a trailer last month showcasing livestock players can manage, including camels and reindeer. The Collector’s Edition comes with a chicken plush and a highly customizable musical diorama with five interchangeable magnetic pieces that can be posed anywhere. Pre-orders for this go live tomorrow, and the game releases on March 2, 2021.
Limited Run Games is also the publisher for independent developer IO Interactive's Hitman series, and will be releasing a physical Deluxe Edition of Hitman 3 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S at the end of this month. The Deluxe Edition contains a physical version of Agent 47’s Passport, as well as in-game escalation contracts, multiple suits, a directors commentary, a digital soundtrack, and a digital “World of HITMAN” book. Though separate boxes will be sold, the PS5 physical version will also provide access to the PS4 copy of Hitman 3 needed to play on PSVR and the PS4 version will provide a free upgrade to the PS5 version.
