Pokemon GO Contest Lets Players Become An NPC in the Game
Pokemon games always have players facing off against other trainers during their journey to catch 'em all, and Pokemon GO is no exception. Players can battle trainers including Team Rocket Boss Arlo in Pokemon GO this month, and will face more during the upcoming Kanto event in February.
During the Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto event, players will face event-exclusive trainers in the game, and some players can become one of these characters. More specifically, they can participate in a contest to have their character model appear as an NPC during the Kanto event. Players will be able to find and battle these trainers across the game's map and gain extra Timed Research rewards while they're at it.
The Pokemon GO development team is holding a competition to determine which players' trainer avatars will make it into the Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto event as some of the new in-game trainers. To enter, players will need to submit a screenshot of their trainer on Twitter with the avatar's name, outfit, a list of three Pokemon, and the hashtag #PokemonGOTourContest. All of the Pokemon must come from the Kanto region, and can't include Ditto, or legendary and mythical Pokemon.
The screenshots will be judged based on their outfit's creativity, theme, and Pokemon team composition. The Pokemon GO team does make some design suggestions that can help players' chances while crafting their trainer's look. For example, players can give themselves a cool theme like being an energetic Electric-type trainer, or a composed Water-type trainer. Players can also show off whether they're on Pokemon GO's Team Mystic, Team Instinct, or Team Valor in the screenshot.
The contest itself will be free to everyone at or above the age of majority in their resident country, at the time of entry. To enter the Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto contest, players must log in to Twitter and upload their screenshot as a post with the hashtag.
The Pokemon GO Tour contest starts today, and players have until Monday, January 11 at 11:59 p.m. PT to submit their entries. Players can only use one Twitter account to submit to the contest. Other than that, the Pokemon GO team says it looks forward to seeing the players' many submissions for the contest. While players get ready for the Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto event starting this February 20, players can still enjoy the Pokemon GO's January events before then.
Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS devices.
